Do you eat street foods? What's your favorite?
The other day, while running errands, I chanced upon a street food vendor nearby. He is selling the usual fish balls, squid balls, chicken balls, and kikiam.
I personally miss eating those street foods. Since my stomach started to feel sensitive, I've started to be cautious about where and what I eat.
It's that time of the month again where I get moody and crave random snacks (if you know what I mean). I drooled at the sight of those street foods.
The seller was gone and it started to rain just when I was ready to buy some fish balls. When I got home, I immediately shared my disappointment with my parents.
I jumped with delight when I spotted these fish balls in the refrigerator awhile ago. My parents bought it for me. How sweet!

FISH BALLS
It is one of the most well-known street foods in the Philippines. It is frequently served with a sweet sauce, spicy sauce, or even vinegar with onion. Which sauce do you like best?
Since I was craving it, I immediately cooked it.
I opted not to use the air fryer so that I could enjoy the nostalgic experience of actually cooking it and pretended that I was buying it from the street vendors.
In a pan, I poured in the cooking oil. After 30 seconds, I added in the fish balls.
This is the view whenever I buy fish balls in the streets.
While cooking the fish balls
We usually use sticks to get the fish balls once they're cooked. Unfortunately, I don't have any sticks at home, and toothpicks are also unsuitable.
I waited for the fish balls to be cooked. You'll know it's cooked when it's already golden brown in color.
Once cooked, I transferred the fish balls to a sieve to remove the extra oil. I don't want to eat it greasy.
Removing extra oil from the cooked fish balls
I prepared the second batch of fish balls as I waited for the extra oil to drip.
After filtering the extra oil, I transferred all the cooked fish balls onto a plate with tissue so the tissue could absorb the excess oil. I do that every time I eat greasy food.
Does it really make a difference? 😄

The Sauce
I've seen several videos on how to make the well-known street food sauce for fish balls, but none of the recipes I've tried have the flavor I'm after.
Good thing, my dad bought this Holiday street food sauce. This is our first time to try this. I didn't know Holiday has this.

I poured it into a pan, let it simmer, and then transferred it into a saucer.
The fact that you can just reheat this sauce is what I like about it.

Tadaaa! Street food fish balls with sauce by yours truly~
cooked fish balls with sweet sauce
I'm surprised at how good the sauce is! Perfect for fish balls and probably for kikiams as well!
For the sauce, we typically use Jufran, but this one is another holy grail!
I paired this snack with a soda so I could enjoy it to the fullest.
Indeed craving satisfied! 🤤
