Hello everyone, what's good? I'm just here feeling extremely tired with my entire body aching terribly. Well, scratch that!
I had a busy yesterday, very busy one. But well, trust me to create fun of every single thing I do.
I spent yesterday producing a widely known Nigerian food called Garri.
What Is Garri?
Garri refers to the creamy granular flour obtained by processing the starchy tuberous roots of freshly harvested cassava.
The process to me is very simple and interesting since it's something I do rampantly.
How To Produce Garri
To make garri flour, first, cassava tubers are uprooted and peeled. After peeling, they are properly washed and grated or crushed to produce a mash.
The mash are put in big bags which is then placed in an adjustable press machine for about 1-3 hours (depending on the quantity of the mash) to remove excess water.
Once dried, it is then sieved to produce soft grains.

The sieved mash is then fried with or without palm oil. This results in dry granular Garri.
The resulting dry granular garri can then be stored for long periods.
Methods Of Consumption
Garri comes in various consistencies, which can roughly be categorized into rough, medium and smooth. Each type is used for a particular food.
The diverse ways of consuming garri includes:
Eba
Eba is a local name which originated from the Yoruba's. It is a stiff dough made by soaking garri in hot water and kneading it with a wooden baton until it becomes a smooth doughy staple. It is served as part of a meal with various soups and sauces. Some of these include okra soup, egusi soup, vegetable soup, afang soup, banga soup and bitter leaf soup.As a snack, cereal, or light meal, garri can be soaked in cold water, mixed with sugar or honey, roasted peanuts or groundnut with evaporated milk and soya beans powder are sometimes added.
Garri can also be eaten dry without water, but with sugar, palm oil and roasted peanut added.
In its dry form, garri is used as an accompaniment for soft cooked beans and palm oil, etc.
Nutritional Benefits Of Garri
Cassava, the root from which garri is produced, is rich in fiber, copper and magnesium.
Garri mainly supplies the body with enough carbohydrate.
Me looking so exhausted after production 😩
Despite being so tired, i had fun working all day, It feels good to not just be a consumer of food but an excellent producer too.
If you're not a Nigerian here and just in case you someday visit the Eastern part of Nigeria, please try this wonderful Nigerian food, I hope you will enjoy yourself.
Thanks for reading through everyone.
Your's Truly,
Didiee.♥️
