I do love cooking. Nothing tastes better than a self prepared meal with fresh ingredients. But sometimes I just don't have the time to make a meal, or I'm really not in the mood. We all know that feeling. So once in a while I want it the easy way. But I'm really not into junk food. Even if I want an easy meal, I try to find something a little bit healthy. Since last year we have a new deli shop in our town. Most of the dishes are healthy and freshly made.
Yesterday we went over there and we did some shopping. In Spain it's hard to find healthy meals. The only thing I can find are a selection of salads. The shelves are full of hamburgers, pizza, pasta and meat dishes (with little to none veggies). In Belgium we have access to a wide variety of fresh and somehow healthy food. So while I'm in Belgium I do eat some more "lazy dishes".
The first one I took is a typical Belgium salad. It's full of fresh crudities with a tuna salad on top of a peach (canned). I really love this combination. I never saw this in another country. According to Wikipedia it's indeed a Belgian dish. It's a standard on a carry-in dinner here. But of course you can make it all over the world. Just give it a try, maybe you discover something new.
When we visit the shop we must be careful. The temptation lures around the corner to take way to many dishes home! The picture below gives you an impression of the selection of salads:
The salad selection is only a small part in the deli shop. They also have a very big assortment of prepared dishes. The deli shop is known for working with fresh and local products. Every day they cook the dishes so you always have fresh food. The local specialties are always on the menu, but also the big classics from the French Cuisine and a selection of "world food". So no matter what mood you're in, you will always find something.
And of course you can also find a sandwich, custom made. While we were passing the sandwich station three people were preparing a very large order for a special occasion. The whole working table was full of filles rolls (Think it was for a reception). At the counter some plates were already finished, and I asked the lady if I could take a picture. She smiled and was so proud that I wanted a picture of her delicious dish.
Time to head back home and do some work ... At least we won't need to cook today!
Although it's lazy food, I don't feel sorry. It's still more healthy than a McDonald's 😁
