Countries all over the world each have their own favourite sausage; Germany has many types of Wurst, Chorizo is found in Spain and many South American countries although there's a vast difference between a Spanish Chorizo and a Mexican Chorizo!
The list goes on and on; I'd love to hear what your favourite sausage is in your nick of the woods.
Here in South Africa we have our very own Boerewors!
Boerewors direct translation Farmer’s Sausage, affectionately known as a Boerie, is a traditional South African sausage made with coarsely ground beef, pork or sometimes lamb, bits of pork fat and spiced with cloves, allspice, pepper and coriander plus the addition of preservatives like malt vinegar and salt giving it a unique flavour.
My B.I.S.S. for the month of March is the all-time favourite of sports mad South Africans, many who come to our BnB Lily's Cottage to watch rugby and other big sport events, and that is a:
Boerie Roll
- Braaied barbequed Boerewors placed inside
- A long Breadroll.
- Lathered with a Fresh Basil, Tomato & Onion Sauce.
Show me a carnivore who would say no to this simple but delicious treat that’s sure to leave you with sticky fingers and glistening cheeks;)
I'm sure you can make this with your favourite sausage, but I guarantee, nothing beats a Boerie Roll!
This has been my entry for that Cool Dude 's B.I.S.S. - March Contest, hope to see your sandwich over there. Guidelines are given in that post.
Not forgetting a big thank you to the generous sponsors as well!
