Every Saturday, the Freedom cell Playa del Carmen group meets at Ergo Food. A lovely place with food made fresh every day, the most divine fresh fruit juices and smoothies, and the best people in town to run it!
Ergo, one of my favorites in Playa del Carmen
Just like with the crypto meetings on Wednesday, this group gathers weekly, and some of the people will show their faces at both meetings, which is nice because by now, after only 2 months here, I know quite a few lovely people.
The founder of the Freedom Cell here, chose this place for several reasons, and I have to say: he chose well.
The three owners are a man and a woman from Venezuela, and a man from Mexico city. They built the little eatery with their bare hands, from mostly recycled materials, from the pretty little food shack, to the tables. In only two weeks!
They each have their own history to tell, to those who want to listen. Their food is not vegan or vegetarian, however, they have a great selection for vegans & vegetarians.
This in great contrast to most taquerias, or other Mexican restaurants, where you're lucky to find vegan tacos and a veggie burrito on the menu.
But it's not the food alone that makes this place into something special, it's the fact that every dish they make, is made & served with love and you can taste it!
The last time I was there, I ordered an arepa (Venezuelan bread roll. You'll find nothing like it!) Mine was filled with plantan (plantano macho), and veggies, and it was simply divine!
So much, that I took a bite before I remembered to take a photo. Oops, sorry!😂
Ordering their food or drinks won't set you back by a lot either. An arepa like mine was around 60 pesos (3 dollar) and you can order a whole liter of fresh juice for 30 pesos (1.50 dollar). If you ever come down to Playa del Carmen, a visit to this place will be something worth your while!
