If you are invited in a wedding party for lunch or dinner...or if it is a family dinner on any type of occasion in Mauritius, there's a big chance that you gonna have some Beef Biryani on the table!
Traditionally beef biryani is cooked on wood fire and in a special cooking pot called at Deg!
Below you will see how it is cooked...
It's been quite long that I did not enjoy a nice traditional biryani...I still remember the last time we place an order for my family was like 3 months back...
We ordered a big 'deg' and it was super yummy!
It is true that Biryani can be found in many countries around the world...but the Mauritian one is simply something else...so delicious!
In a big picture, without entering into the recipe details...Biryani is a rice dish...and in the bottom of the deg you have big chunks of beef, potato and spices and a lot of fried onions!
Wheny ou open your deg, this is how it will look like!
And on the below photo, you can see the different layers...the botom brownish part is the beef and potato with spices!
Cooking a biryani the traditional way takes time...with all the preps work included, you will need at least 4 hrs!
To serve, you just have to take off the top rice layer and mix carefully with the bottom...
Then accompany with salads ,pickles and chili!
Just by mentioning it...I feel my mouth getting water!!!
Have you ever tasted Biryani dear friends!?
By the way, we can also make vegetarian biryani, or with fish, seafood, lamb etc...
But I prefer the beef one - This is the classic!
Wish you a great day/evening ahead!
