Hi Everyone,
As we hit winter in Australia, the next COVID wave has arrived. BB E had covid 2 weeks ago and was lucky he had recovered just in time for the new school term. Due to this new wave of sickness, I have tried to reduce my outings once again and started shopping once again. Although it is winter, we were craving sashimi and therefore thought we should order some from the fish markets plus some fish for dinner.
Most shops at the fish market off free delivery if you order a certain amount and this particular one requires a minimum of $150 order. What I normally would do is order sashimi and a whole heap of other whole fish and fish fillets and freeze them for future dinners as my kids love steam fish with ginger and shallots. They love their Asian food so buying extra fish is never an issue for us.
This time we ordered some toro (great quality!), tuna, bonito, snapper & cuttlefish as sashimi. Then a whole coral trout, some ling & snapper fish filets. The sashimi was very nice but unfortunately, the fish fillets were not very good. They weren't that fresh and felt that they were already out for a few days. The fish wasn't cheap but we couldn't get a refund so the only thing I could do is not order from them next time and go back to Nicholas who we would normally order from.
Although the fish fillet wasn't that great, the sashimi was. I highly recommend using this special Japanese imported sashimi soy sauce by Kikkoman, at an instant, I thought I landed in a restaurant in Japan. That familiar taste of the soy sauce was worth the extra money I paid for it at the Asian store the other day.
PS - what's pictured was only half of what I ordered on the table. We had the other half for lunch the next day. In total, we ordered 900grams of sashimi across the 5 choices.
