Hi all 👋🏻
Hereby my entry into the POBphotocontest of this week: RIVERS
Hosted by
I show you today a selection of photographs from 2 river locations I explored in the Guadeloupe 🇬🇵 rainforest 😎😁 on my travels in May 2019.
All photos are taken with my (late) Canon eos 550D with 18 - 135 mm lens. 🤓
We are on Basse Terre, the left side of the island, so the left wing of the butterfly shape 🦋 as the island of Guadeloupe looks exactly like that. Curious? Do explore my other Guadeloupe posts to find more information. At the bottom of my Photographs.
First photo is my contest entry.
Guadeloupe river with large rocks and a brave soul that tried to cross it.
But let’s start at the beginning. 😊
We were exploring the rainforest, and stumbled upon a trail that we than followed.
It reached a wild river with strong flows that we started walking along.
Let me take you along:
I could see the river through the dense vegetation.
And decided let’s go a bit further to see if we can get closer by.
Imagine these rocks are actually pretty big. Dining table big for 6 people.
Details I see around me…
Ooo people down there… they are walking along the river. Let’s follow their footsteps 😎
Tourists like me… (I’m not exploring in a group)
After getting down the sides, I reached the river and look around.
See how fast it is flowing… the sound is amazing. So calming. Right in the middle of the rainforest.
I turn right a bit…
And back left.
A portrait version. To capture the rainforest better in the photograph.
Beautiful isn’t it? 😎
We are walking over the wet and slippery side, even climbing over rocks 🪨
And looking back.
I see some pretty details.
Let’s take a closer look.
Very cool 😎 see the hanging down vegetation… coming down and just touching the river.
Walking further now… the river has more large rocks in it. Not sure why that person was crossing it there as his group was on the left side. Maybe he tried to see if the group could cross the river… apparently not as he turned around half way.
See also first photograph. Now you can also see how large some rocks are 🤓🪨 with the person next to them.
I waited till the group disappeared to take a few photographs of this beautiful spot. 🥰 it was so cool in the shade. And the water refreshing…
After this bend I decided to go on a trail back inside the rainforest 😁
But wait… let me show you another river I found in Guadeloupe 🇬🇵
This one has easy access from the main road through the middle of Basse Terre. Its walking path next to it that leads you right to a large WATERFALL. 😁
We see a large bridge…
Crossing it we see a calm river. So different than the one above.
Looking over the edge I see.
After we crossed I look back at the bridges construction.
Walking along the path we see the river and details in it.
Further along I hear the waterfall… and see people gathered around it. But I’m not that far yet.
Let’s enjoy the view…
I zoom in and see it is rather busy.
In the water next to me I see fish swimming by.
More rocks…
Do you see what I did. I started walking the other way now 😉
A few more photographs I take.
The flow of the water…
The view of the direction I was walking in.
After I walked a bit I turned around again and decided to cross in a good spot the river, as we need to cross it to reach the waterfall…
I followed this group. And went over the rocks.
Nope, I have no photographs of that bit as it was rather slippery and feet will get wet.
I joined the groups in the back. Took some pretty pictures of people jumping of into the little lagoon under the waterfall… can you imagune yes, you have too, as I will post the waterfalls from Guadeloupe another time. This is just a rivers post.
Naughty me hahaha 🤣
So that’s all for today!
Hope you enjoyed looking through my photographs and entry of this weeks theme ~ rivers. The ones I explored on my travels… although this is truly just a tiny selection of all rivers I have seen 😁😉😎 some even led me to waterfalls… I promise I will show you another day 😉
The first river in this post I remember the most and was so pretty.
