I grew up watching the Captain Planet cartoon series as a young boy in the USA, and when I discovered Don Cheadle's Captain Planet parody several years ago, I thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen on screen.
The Original Captain Planet Cartoon 📺
Captain Planet has been on my mind since a recent comment on one of my posts by . This American cartoon series aired in the early 90s, but I'm not sure if it ever aired in other countries. I was seven years old when it aired for the first time, and I was hooked immediately, and hellbent on saving the planet from Captain Pollution.
Cambodian tourists that come here to the Cardamom Mountains, and locals too, throw their trash anywhere they please without a care that this area is one of the last great forests of Southeast Asia, and probably the last place in Cambodia teaming with biodiversity. It is really frustrating to me because at the very least the older generation should care about leaving a healthy environment for their grandchildren to grow up in, a place not covered in plastic bottles and soiled diapers.
Cambodia really needs a Captain Planet kind of hero because it would do a lot to foster a basic care of the earth here. The following parody is funny regardless of whether or not you might've ever seen Captain Planet before, but I provided the intro and a short clip so you can get a feel for what this show was all about and the character of Captain Planet. The important thing before we move forward is to know that this cartoon series was G-rated and
🦸🏿♂️ Don Cheadle's Captain Planet Is Hysterical 😂
Part 1
When I set out to make this post, I hadn't watched these minisodes in at least three years, but sure I laughed so hard I shed a few tears, Don Cheadle is a comedic genius. There are so many classic one-liners I had forgotten over the years, but here are the highlights from part 1,
"The wood is good!"
"Human......tree! Tree! Tree! Tree!"
"Everybody's a tree, I knew I'd do it."
"I'm going back up, don't summon me again unless you ready for that pain.....peace dkholes!"**
"The power is mine bitches!"
I totally forgot the pelvic thrust lasers, that actually made my eyes water, and the the fake attack that made the Planeteers flinch and recoil, both had me in stitches just like the first time I watched it.
Part 2
Part 2 is just as good as the first one, the opening scene with him in a blue business suit had me rolling before the action even started.....I forgot how good these clips were. The newscaster states that "The once beloved hero is now corrupted by his own power," letting you know he's gone to a dark place. The office scene is the highlight without a doubt.
"Captain Planet turned my daughter into a tree, and my wife."
"Mai-Tai, is this synthetic polyester? You've lost your power ring privileges, hand it over."
"I heard you went insane...............I heard your broccolis."
"Trees are still my jam."
Part 3
The suspense and terror builds with each minisode, making you wonder how much more ridiculous things will get. The part where he tricks the guy with the canvas bag question is one of the best parts. He even invokes some Indiana Jones vibes with his quote while holding the heart.
"Would you like to be a greentop? Do you know what else has greentops? Trees, called leaves!"
"You got tree envy, bitch?"
"So you shop for produce at the supermarket instead of your local green grocer?"
Part 4
The last gets even more ridiculous, Captain Planet has created an altered ego, "Croc Peterson," and cast himself as a Steven Seagal type character in an action film. When they learn that his kryptonite is woodpeckers, he goes on a rampage and tree-ifies everyone on the planet, unknowingly creating a natural habitat for woodpeckers in the process. There a few memorable quotes in this one too,
"Sorry everybody, I thought it was a woodpecker, I hate woodpeckers."
"No witnesses!"
Thanks for riding along with me on this trip to silly town. I just wanted to have some fun today, and creating this post was just an easy way to monetize the laughter I found today.
