I don't know very many crypto-enthusiasts that are not obsessed with treasure of some kind or the other and I am no different. My treasure obsession is satiated by watching Bering Sea Gold. There is something that taps into the wild adventure spirit in us all when it comes to hunting for hidden treasure and this show has a cast of reality characters that are truly stranger(and more entertaining) that fiction.
My deeply-ingrained fascination with finding treasures was instilled in me by my father who was always on the lookout for some kind of "treasure". Whether it be a barn steal vintage motorcycle or car, hidden jewels at an antique store or pawn shop, panning for gold in the N. Georgia mountains, or searching for fossils on the shores and rivers of Florida, he was always on the "search" for something.
As I became an adult the family vacations I would plan would somehow have a treasure hunting aspect to them. For instance, a peaceful getaway at a mountain cabin would have a day of panning for gold mixed in. Going to the beach would be hours and hours of fun in the sun and surf.....but some type of fossils would be within driving distance to hunt. A beautiful romantic dinner is so lovely to share with my amazing wife, I can't help it if it just so happens to be down the block from the largest antique mall within 200 miles! You get my drift! lolol
So of course when the onslaught of reality television begin to delve into the various aspects of treasure hunting, I was all in. From mysterious treasure protected by curses to gregarious families mining for gold in Alaska, these become some of my favorite television to watch. I've watched just about every one that has come and gone from being a kid dreaming of visiting the ruins and mysterious realms described by Leonard Nimoy on In Search Of to rooting for those two brothers to finally find something on The Curse of Oak Island, I loved them all.
But out of all of these amazing shows my absolute favorite has been Bering Sea Gold. I'm not sure if it is because it combines my love of treasure hunting with my love of diving or if it is the amazing people that are involved in the show or if it is just the sexy sound of Mike Rowe's raspy seductive voice. Who knows it could be some wild combination of it all, but I find myself transfixed each time a season comes out on Discovery+ and I end up binge watching an entire season much, much faster than any human should! There is something so fascinating and satisfying about a group of men and women doing battle against the elements and the ferocity of Mother Ocean herself to carve out a meaningful amount of gold from her weathered and worn sea floor.
I adore this show and could go back and watch old seasons over and over even though I know how it will end. If you have never checked this show out, I highly recommend it. Thank you for reading my post and remember that I love each of you and there is treasure in each of you waiting to be found!
