I woke up feeling like trash again yesterday morning and it took me a while to get going for the day.
I was in the garden getting things ready for pulling the bean plants when our friend showed up to pickup the chipper. I gave her the run down on how to use it and after talking for a bit they headed out.
My entire day was spent in the big garden pulling bean plants. I figured out that my Tub Trugs hang on the handles of my wheelbarrow very nicely and allowed me to wheel the whole setup along as I yanked plants out and pulled hte beans before throwing the plants in the wheelbarrow.
The first row gave me about 14 pounds of beans.
Then I started the second row but went inside to eat lunch. At 1pm , the boys, and my mom went to the apple pressing at our friend's house while I stayed and worked in the garden. There is only so much light in the day so I have to use it.
The Seahwaks game was on our local radio station so I had that blasting on the tool shed radio while I worked. The game was not super eventful so it worked out well. The second row was Provider beans and they barely all fit in the one tub for about 27 pounds.
Next I moved to the bean rows by the cucumber row. I slotted a tub on each handle and worked my way up the rows. I kept at it for the next few hours and got the two rows finished just in time for our friend to stop by for the grain.
We loaded the 3 barrels into the bed of his Toyota and emptied them out. He is loving the grain for his garden and yard.
We had talked for a while and it was late enough that I got the row covers up on the tomatoes and peppers.
The two rows filled the tubs pretty well. It was about 45 pounds between them.
had come out to help pick beans and one of the rows is still edible so she worked on them and got about 7 pounds. For the day I ended up with just shy of 87 pounds picked.
I need to figure out how to sleep better at night as I keep waking up tossing and turning from my sore and tight back and shoulders.
Today I am going to pick all the peppers and get them to the cooler then they will be going through the freeze dryer, the tomatoes all need to be bagged and brought inside to ripen. So many are split and likely will have to be tossed since I gave them too much water (next year the row gets a valve to meter the water flow), I have to get the last delivery to the so-op ready for tomorrow morning, then this afternoon I am taking the boys to town so they can go shopping with .
