Yesterday started out okay. I was outside soaking while everyone else slept. I needed to be ready to head north to get a big bale of hay at 10. I already had the trailer hooked up to the truck so it was not long before I was on the road.
I got the bale loaded on the trailer and made it back to the farm where I managed to spend an hour trying to get the trailer to back up across the sheet of ice that the yard has become. Intense anger and frustration built as I fought to get the truck and trailer unstuck. I eventually got to the point of jacking the trailer up with the floor jack and reinstalling the trailer jack that had fallen off.
I have no possible means of moving the trailer now since the ice is soo shitty everywhere in the yard. I am likely going to back the truck up to the back side of the trailer and load as much of the bale as I can into it then I can dump it in the pen. I am still super pissed about this and I am beyond done with the ice block this yard becomes in the winter.
I tried to calm myself down by focusing on the mandolin for a bit. It took my mind off the trailer for a little bit but the stupid thing is sitting right in my view at all times so it is hard to not think about the mess.
I got the fire going in the pit before dark to let it build before grilling.
We got the evening soak in but I was not in for long as I needed to get the bison steaks on the grill.
2 bison top round steaks sat in beer, vinegar, whorchesterer, salt, and oil for some hours.
My steak went on first and it took a little while to cook so I grabbed my mandolin and practiced some more while I turned it. I have the first 4 measures of Whiskey Before Breakfast now an am trying to get them to sound right with the correct tempo.
Rare on the left and medium on the right. It doesn't matter which cut of the bison we have had so far they have all been amazingly tender and absolutely delicious.
With the boys in bed we got our night soak in. It was snowing pretty nicely when I went out and about the time I got out it was stopping with about a half inch fallen. I was falling asleep in the hot water and had to evacuate myself out of it before I woke up with a face full of water.
Probably no school for the boys today but there is wrestling practice tonight. I have to work on the bale on the trailer, practice, and probably work on more organizing around the house.
