Caught a slight lull in the squash yesterday with only 24 pounds put in the cooler. It happens like this where the production increases and decreases throughout the season. The beans are flowering and still not ready to pick and the cucumbers are starting to get the wee little ones starting to show.
During the day I did a bunch of little tasks. One was to map out the spacing on the wood for the temperature controller I am getting to run the heater for the cooler for winter so I can store in it. The cooler freezes when it gets below freezing outside for a while and if I want to be able to use it I need to have it at about 40F all winter. It's a small heater and the cooler is small so hopefully it will not have to work too hard to keep it warm when the temps are in the teens and lower through Winter.
After made a trip to Costco we all headed down the creek to see about the fish. This is our end of the tunnel.
Since a few days ago the water level has dropped more and one of the 6 inch trout was not able to make it to deeper water and died about a third of the way through the tunnel.
The water ended up muddy and the sun was too low so the fish scattered as they could see me easier. The prior time I was standing over the water the sun was directly overhead and the fish did not see me as easily. I am going to have to make a fish cage to catch them since the pool is bigger than I thought with a lot of nooks and crannies for them to hide in. I have a bunch of hardware cloth wire that I think I can fashion into one.
After the try at the fish we headed up to the other tunnel to soak in the water. Sunday I had cut the bottom off a planting pot and yesterday we took it down to try it out. It works quite well as a viewing port that calms the water and blocks a lot of the glare so you can see down into the water a lot better.
As I was taking the garbage can out to the road I was walking past the boat and noticed one of the tires had de-laminated in the heatwave last week. The tire was garbage anyway but it had NOT been like this before the 114F. I have to get new tires on both trailers soon.
This morning I went to town to get grain. Euros is on at noon, I have to go pick, fix irrigation leaks, work on the fence in the sheep pen, then my father gets in today sometime for a month or month and a half stay.
