Recently, discussions surrounding women's empowerment have gained significant attention. Empowerment and autonomy for women, coupled with improvements in their political, social, economic, and health status, are recognized as vital goals. This encompasses promoting women's sense of self-worth, their ability to make choices, and their right to influence social change, irrespective of their status in various aspects of life. However, can we truly define women solely within the confines of these vague questions? Is a woman exclusively a leader or a follower?
Would you consider yourself more of a leader or a follower, and what leads you to that conclusion?
For this matter, I say both. Yes, I can, and so can everyone else. It's all about the guts, will, and confidence to meet the expectations placed upon us as women. We truly have the capacity to do so. Please allow me to share my thoughts and experiences, hoping to inspire and encourage everyone to realize their potential.
I am a leader. I once served as a youth leader in our barangay, and I have also held leadership roles during my academic schooling. I continue to serve as a leader in the Church. Anyone can be a leader in various ways, even within their own homes. A loving mother, sister, aunt, or grandmother can testify to that. However, a leader is not born but made through a process of growth and development. As mentioned earlier, it only takes the will and courage to step up.
At the same time, I am also a follower. I believe in the quote that says, 'A good leader is a good follower.' This is certainly true. As Aristotle said, 'He who cannot be a good follower cannot be a good leader.' I cannot expect others to obey instructions if I myself do not observe rules.
As women, we can be both—wherever and whatever we are—embracing our divine calling and worth. We are people of substance, possessing the power to inspire a nation as much as we do in our communities and our own homes. We only have to discover and rediscover, if needed.
Kudos to all the amazing, wonderful, beautiful women all over the world. You and I are needed in this world.
