Yes my hands are stained, but from what? I asked my eldest daughter to take a picture of them and she told me it looked like they were covered in blood and she didn't think it was a good idea to post it. "Ah, everyone who reads me, knows I wouldn't harm any being." Was my response to her.
I wasn't thinking along the same lines as her, when I requested that she take the photo. I just really liked the look of the red juice on my hands. And there you have it, in case I did have you wondering. The red stain, is from fruit. Some of my favourite as well.
I got a call from a friend of mine asking if I wanted some organic cherries. They needed to be eaten or used up today, as any longer and they would start to turn bad. In other words they were just perfect.
Me and the girls spend our of the morning, sorting through them. Keeping some to eat throughout the day and the rest for making jam. That's me depending and cutting them up to make z batch of jam. I added the juice of two lemons and some coconut sugar. Not too much, as cherries are super sweet when they are cooked.
Once again it was super hot today. So in the evening, me, the girls and the dogs headed to the river for a swim. Ot felt real good to immerse ourselves in the water, and wash away the sweat and heat from the day.
On the walk back, I spotted lots of fruit growing. One of the reasons why I love where I live. There is always food growing out in the wild, be it fruit nuts or wild greens. In this case pomegranates, which I love. They won't be ready till September but I love to watch them grow.
It is such a lovely walk. It's got quite a nice amount of shade which is so important on these hot days. As well as some lovely pieces of land and properties. I walk past this small door every time I walk to the river and how I would love to walk through it and see what is on the otherwise. Or perhaps it's best, to let my imagination run wild.
It's the same walk, I take to get to the eucalyptus forest. I do feel really lucky, to have both the river and forest so close to where I now live. Both places that really help to ground me. My eldest daughter also loves to walk to both of these places, to have some time to herself.
I couldn't resist, posting this shot of a fid tree that we passed. There are lots of fig trees growing around this area. These figs are growing in the wild as well and they have a while to go. But I will be collecting some to make into chutney. Caramelised Red Onion and Fig chutney to be exact. And yes, it tastes as good as it sounds.
Then, we were almost home. Just in time to watch the sunset, the last of its rays shining through the trees. All in all a very eventful day. Now we just have to wait a few weeks, till we can eat our cherry jam.
