The sheep were happy yesterday morning as I had to dump the barrels of grain for them. This time I got the trailer backed in where I had cleared branches before so I was able to get the grain atop soil that had not been piled high with it already. The birds made their way over and much of the day they scratched around the piles while the sheep munched on the other side of the fence.
I brought my bag of pumpkin seeds out and plopped a bunch down in the grain around the base of the fir tree. I am REALLY curious to see if they sprout and then grow. The grain is a well of moisture and will not be drying out for a longtime this summer. That means I likely won't have to water much if I can get squash plants to start growing. If they sprout then I will worry about getting plastic mulch down, but I may wait until there are pumpkin growing and I will just set the squash on the plastic and not cover the whole ground since weeds don't grow there yet.
PDC Belgium was on in the morning then Man Utd played and got embarrassed. Thanks to the goalie screwing up they lost and are trying as hard as they can to piss the season away. It was sad to watch them falling apart so badly right at the time they need to be on top of their game.
At the half time I went out and pulled the weed eater out and got it tuned up for the year. I got grease in the head which is a yearly routine. I cleaned off the air filter and got fresh gas in it before refilling the string. I then finished watching the embarrassment of a match.
There was weather floating around to the west of us much of the day and it took forever to finally make it as far as the farm. After noon took the boys to town and I went out to cut the grass before the storms hit. Right now there is not a ton that has grown out so it was not a huge project. What had grown though was shaggy and the dandelions were in flower.
I got as close as I could to the gooseberries and hit one branch by accident. I really need to get mulch around the gooseberries so they don't get choked by the grass.
I finished with the trail to the big creek which needs to be opened up each year. The moisture of the creek bottom helps everything grown in quite thick each year.
I got a fire going in the pit for the afternoon which managed to survive the rains later on.
I am figuring out my throw now and am slowly getting the aim to center. I was throwing for the bull for about 15 minutes and this was my best throw of the time. Very slowly I am making progress but it is a bit difficult to get the body to repeat the same exact motion 3 times in a row, I always am having variations.
I went rummaging through my fencing pile and found a piece that I hoped would be long enough for the pea row. I was quit happy when I unrolled it it was about 6 feet too long, or 6 feet more than long enough? Anyway it was the perfect length and I got it up on the posts. I am trying to get all the fencing and wires up this year before anything sprouts so that I am not trying to put it up with fragile sprouts in the way. I will get the bottom couple rows of wires up in the pole garden too and then the upper wires laid out to make it easier to install later.
I had been watching the doppler and the storm took half an hour to go the 5 miles between the 395 and the farm as the storm moved east. I watched it come across the valley until it hit the farm.
It dumped for a while but after an hour it was largely gone.
The turkey that we had roasted got shredded up and the meat put onto the freeze dryer trays. It filled 2 trays, one of dark meat and one of breast meat.
Then for the other 3 trays cracked turkey eggs into the blender. The first run was of 12 eggs which made for a bout 5 cups in the blender.
The turkey eggs are a good bit bigger than chicken eggs.
The chicken egg on the left and the turkey on the right. The turkey is at least 1.5X bigger.
We found we were only able to put about 4 cups per tray which amounted to about 10 eggs per tray.
Once the batch is done the eggs are going to get powdered up and then bagged. We have such a glut of eggs right now that we are trying to find a way to easily preserve them in a form that is easily usable. Powdered egg can be used in numerous dishes and it will take up minimal space.
The Kraken played and they kicked the Stars asses. They ended up winning 7-2 with 5 goals in the 2nd period for a resounding win at home. They lead the series 2-1 with the next game tomorrow night from Seattle.
Since they were kicking ass so well I went out to soak as they continued to score goals. Made back inside to see them finish off the game.
Today I have to get the upper garden setup and planted with melons and squash, my tubing bender will be here tomorrow so I need to get the posts started installing for the greenhouse, the lower garden needs to be finished setting up and get planted, I have my daily lessons/practices to work on, and I need to make more tortillas.
