Japanese tit came to my okan's garden
I make it a habit to go out into the garden around 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon, when the sun begins to tilt a little to the west, to make various observations. This is also the time when I take in the laundry, and my favorite time of day, when the daytime heat eases and the air becomes a little cooler. This seems to be the time of year when the chicks that hatched in the spring leave the nest and learn to feed with their parents. While I was taking in the laundry that had been hung out to dry under the persimmon tree, a titmouse family came to catch a large number of oil beetles on the peach tree. The baby birds were not good at flying yet. They perched on a twig and waited patiently for the parent bird to bring them their food.

Peonies and roses
Peonies and roses are now adding color to my Okan's garden. This peony was planted many years ago, but it seems to produce many beautiful flowers every year. They bloom inconspicuously under the persimmon tree, but their bright purple color seems to attract many bees and insects. At the far end of the garden, a rose that my mother received from the wife of the doctor at our local doctor's office is in full bloom. This rose is old now, but it seems to be a delight at this time of the year with its many flowers.
Biwa, my favorite fruit 😄🇯🇵
My mother bought me a loquat fruit. I haven't had loquats for years. It tastes so nostalgic. My Okan was eating a loquat. The other day, I visited my grandparents' grave (Okan's parents' house) and we talked abput two big loquat trees which we remembered they grew in my grandparents house. They were really big trees, probably about 50 years old. Every year, the loquat trees bore so many fruits, and we ate them, remembering with nostalgia how my grandfather used to send them to Osaka by courier service. My mother used to say, "It was unthinkable in the old days to pay money to eat loquat." Every year, more than 100 loquats would bear fruit, and I can still faintly remember that many uneaten loquats would fall under the tree. It is a nostalgic memory.
