And That Is Exactly What Was Said ..
All of us, including Molly, were overly satisfied with this years Strawberry crop .. I can't remember a year when we had gotten so many out of the garden. Many things most likely played a part in it, including fertilizer, compost application, and cool weather. I also sprinkled about 4 pounds of egg shells over it last fall. Not sure if that helped or not. Either way, we got a super kick-ass load of berries this year.
Check Them Out ..
We picked a total of 12+ bowls of sweet, red, goodness. That works out to about to approximately 60 pints! Incredible for the size this strawberry patch is. It is roughly 80 square feet, with 1/5 of it dead. Part of the patch died off last winter.
It started with one berry.
And then they came on FULL FORCE!
But don't feel bad for me.. I had some help from a good friend. Picking berries is hard work! I needed the help.
Molly was slightly disappointed that I wasn't sharing right away.
She got over it quickly though. Many, many, many berries came her way. Believe me, she has no room to complain.
Molly did a great job guarding the bowl from predators and neighbors. lol. I also caught her trying to help herself, from time to time. Crazy dog!
All In All, 12+ Bowls!
Here are the photo's of the pickin's.. minus a few bowls. Plus the neighbors picked a few too. We ate a ton, gave a lot away. Froze a few. Molly ate the rest.. hehehehe.
WHAT A YEAR FOR STRAWBERRIES!!!
Not sure what else I can say, but we are very blessed and thankful for such an awesome harvest :)
“Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo? It'll be spring soon. And the orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket. And they'll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields... and eating the first of the strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?”
