This is my entry for @adalger's
Amazing Nature Contest
These photos were taken in Badlands National Park in South Dakota, USA.

I can see why the area was referred to as bad land by the native Americans and how it must have been difficult to cross on horse back or in a wagon by pioneers who were heading West. There was no water and they must have felt like they were on Mars!

But today the Badlands Loop Road (Highway 240) winds past scenic lookouts, layered rock formations, towering spires and steep canyons and is a fascinating journey through this incredible landscape.

These formations are the result of erosion, and many fossils have been found here.

We intentionally stayed in the park to watch the sunset and seeing the glow spread upon the rocks was a gorgeous sight to see.
