Hey Hivers!
I had the most beautiful start to my day. I got up early this morning to do a quick run to the fruit and veg market to get the best of the best fresh produce.
As I opened my door, there was this stunning hibiscus flower overhanging in my doorway. Hibiscus has got to me one of my favourite flowers. They add vibrancy to every garden and are prevalent in subtropical and tropical regions.
Delicate petals seemingly delicious by the colony of ants that suck on.
A rather pleasant ride to town, as the scanty streets are somewhat unidentifiable these days. It's still early and market vendors are setting up stalls in true market fashion with a multitude of high pitched simultaneous Visayan conversations. Anyway, the atmosphere is great and I use the natural sunlight to capture this stalk of pineapple.
My juice extractor awaits
Now more than ever, we need to be health conscious and do whatever we can to build our immune and nurture ourselves with antioxidant rich foods. So where better to go that here, plus I like to shop local to support local farmers.
The fruit market is somewhere I go to have a lovely chat and laugh with the vendors. They've come know what I like: firm long bananas, fat juicy mangoes, and perfectly round apples like the tissues overlying on my chest. (yes, they know that too:-) ;)
My regular vegetable vendor Lina is always happy to see me and always accommodating of my pickiness. She knows I like my cucumbers long and firm not too thick, my onions small, garlic and ginger big and my tomatoes red. Lina surprised me with "long avocados" which I thought were egg plants at first glance. She told me that they are Chinese avocados that come in both burgundy and green colours. No harm in trying a new long thing methinks.
Long Avocados
Satisfied with my purchases, I wander around to see if there is anything I probably missed off my shopping list.
Filipino delicacy - Dried Fish.
You'd be surprised to see the smiles and happy faces of the Filipinos so early in the morning. They are certainly early risers who always greet you with big smiles
