Yeah! true it is Summer in October for me, we are going to the beach, setting aside the wild flower granny square I was making I rushed first a cropped top I can wear. Very timely I saw a lone Sunflower cropped top posted in one of the crochet group, I tried reverse engineered it. Thankful, I successfully made and fits me comfortably.
Summer In October is a backless cropped top I crocheted with 8 ply polyester, 3 ply soft lanalon and 4 ply indophil acrylic yarn. Thinking out of the box, as what the yarn seller told me, I always combine materials.
Look it fits me...
The history of the design was when I read one of members post in an FB Crochet Group where I belong...after reading, because I have the materials, I tried it right away and personal message,Myles, that I will try the design, too.
Here is the process:
I started with the center of the sunflower, using 3mm hook and deep purple(dp) polyester
Actually I did 2 attempts, the first one was a hexagon form, I frogged it and changed to pentagon or 5 corner granny.
The final starting form...
Round(R)1: in a ring Chain(ch) 3, 15 edc, pull the center thread to close the ring, Slip Stitch(sl st) into 3rd ch of beginning(beg) ch 3, bring in new thread, down with dp.
R2: with brown polyester, ch 4(considered as first edc), 2 extended double crochet in same st, sl st into 4th ch to form a popcorn st, ch 3, repeat the popcorn all around, sl st into 4th ch, bring in lanalon or yellow gold yarn
R3: ch 4 (considered as 1st edc), 1edc cluster, ch 3, repeat(rep) all around, sl st to join.
R4: sl st into next sp, ch 4, 1 edc, in same sp, 3 edc, in next sp, 3 edc in next sp, 2 edc ch 2 2 edc in same sp, 1 st corner made, repeat 4 x all around to complete the pentagon, sl st to join, bring in new color.
R5: just repeat R4, sl st to join, bring in another color or the indophil yarn.
R6: rep R5
R7: all edc in each st, with 5 edc in every corner.
R8: all hdc in each st, increasing 1 at the center corner up to R9 to R12, end, cut longer and weave ends
1 edc in each st at side until 5 rows on both sides, increasing to double treple st to straighten up the 5 th row.
Back Part
Ch 2, 1dc repeat to form the twin foundation line, 15x
alternate a shell st( 2dc, ch 1, 2dc) and 2 dc st until desired length, then weave ends.
Same with the lower part just repeat the stitch use for the back part. Start at the left back part, ch 2 first...
I will still add a few rows using the dp color. I plan to make a short to complete the set.
