Happy Monday to all of you, Needle Work Monday friends. I'm making a great effort to be able to return to reality after the dream day we had yesterday when Argentina finally became world football champion after 36 years. Euphoria took over our entire country and the festivities were massive, the joy of the people was incredible. I'm happy to be contemporary to this and to see my compatriots so happy, without a doubt a date that will be marked in our history 😃.
Slowly getting back to work, today is the last day to enter the Needle Work Your Season! contest. Of course I didn't want to be left out and for today I prepared this project to share with you. These are shorts to wear on these oppressively hot days that await us throughout the summer. We already had enough hot days in the spring so the summer is going to be quite strong: is better to be ready! Hope you like it ❤️.

Estoy haciendo un esfuerzo muy grande para poder volver a la realidad después del día soñado que tuvimos ayer cuando finalmente Argentina se consagró campeón mundial de fútbol después de 36 años. La euforia se apropió de todo nuestro país y los festejos fueron multitudinarios, la alegría de la gente fue algo increíble. Me alegra ser contemporánea a esto y ver tan felices a mis compatriotas, sin duda una fecha que quedará marcada en nuestra historia 😃.
Volviendo lentamente al trabajo, hoy es el último día para participar del concurso Needle Work Your Season!. Por supuesto no quería quedarme afuera y para hoy preparé este proyecto para compartir con ustedes. Se trata de unos pantalones cortos para usar en estos días de agobiante calor que nos esperan durante todo el verano. Ya tuvimos bastantes días calurosos en la primavera así que el verano va a ser bastante fuerte: ¡mejor estar preparados! Espero que les guste ❤️.
I hadn't made big clothes for quite a long time: my favorite projects are the small ones, those that the mold fits in a sheet or two. But this time I was determined that I wanted to have a new short and I got to work. Going through my patchwork box, I found a pretty big piece of this orange patterned fabric and figured it might work. I used this fabric on one of my first projects here in the Needle Work Monday community, so it was nice to finally put it to good use after two years 😅.
Llevaba un tiempo bastante largo sin hacer ropa grande: mis proyectos preferidos son los chiquitos, esos que el molde te entra en una hoja o dos. Pero esta vez estaba decidida a que quería tener un short nuevo y puse manos a la obra. Revisando mi caja de retazos, encontré un pedazo bastante grande de esta tela estampada naranja y supuse que podría funcionar. Esta tela la usé en uno de mis primeros proyectos aquí en la comunidad de Needle Work Monday, por lo que fue bueno terminar de aprovecharla después de dos años 😅.
I had already made a short over a year ago, but this time I did it with a pre-made mold. This time I decided to make my own mold and it took me quite a bit of work to put together a sheet big enough to fit the two parts. To all those who make clothes on a daily basis and with these extensive patterns, my congratulations. I had fun doing this project, but I still prefer those that require less space 😅.
Yo ya había hecho un short hace más de un año, pero esa vez lo hice con un molde ya hecho. Esta vez decidí hacer mi propio molde y me tomó bastante trabajo armar una hoja lo suficientemente grande como para que entren las dos partes. A todos los que hacen ropa a diario y con estos patrones tan extensos, mis felicitaciones. Estuve entretenida haciendo este proyecto, pero sigo prefieriendo esos que requieren menos espacio 😅.
Although the piece I had was quite wide, it didn't give me the size to cut the entire patterns so I had to think a lot about how I was going to use the fabric. After a long time of seeing how I could do it, I ended up cutting the short in 10 PARTS: 3 for each half of the back and 2 for each front. Great patchwork job I had to do 😅.
Si bien el retazo que tenía era bastante amplio, no me daba la medida como para cortar los patrones enteros así que tuve que pensar bastante en como iba a aprovechar la tela. Después de un buen rato de ver como podía hacer, terminé cortando el short en 10 PARTES: 3 para cada mitad de la parte trasera y 2 para cada parte delantera. Gran trabajo de patchwork tuve que hacer 😅.
Although I tried to be as careful as possible, with so many pieces I got a little dizzy and I forgot to add some seam allowances that were noticeable when joining the parts. I tried to do my best, but I couldn't help but leave some unwanted stress points where the fabric puckered a bit, but since it's a simple short for everyday wear, I didn't worry too much about it either 😅.
A pesar de que traté de ser lo más cuidadosa posible, con tantas piezas me mareé un poco y me olvidaba de agregar algunos márgenes de costura que se notaron a la hora de unir las partes. Traté de hacerlo lo mejor posible, pero no pude evitar que me quedaran algunos puntos de tensión indeseados en donde la tela se frunció un poco, pero como es un short sencillo para usar a diario tampoco me preocupé tanto 😅.
Once all the fabric was attached, all that remained was to hem and glue on the elastic. Luckily I have a few yards of elastics available in my supply drawer, so it wasn't hard to find a suitable one. To make the waist of these shorts, the embedded elastic technique is used, which hides the elastic with the same fabric. That is why the color we use does not matter much because in the end it will not be seen 🙂.
Una vez que toda la tela estuvo unida, solo quedaba hacer el dobladillo y pegar el elástico. Afortunadamente tengo algunos metros de elásticos disponibles en mi cajón de insumos, así que no fue difícil encontrar uno adecuado. Para hacer la cintura de estos shorts se usa la técnica de elástico embutido, que oculta el elástico con la misma tela. Es por eso que no importa mucho el color que usemos porque al final no se va a ver 🙂.
Finally, this is how the project turned out. Honestly I think it's not so photogenic because of those inconveniences I had while sewing but I think it was still a good way to take advantage of this orange patch. Instead of it sitting there deprecated, it had better be turned into something useful ❣️.
Finalmente, así me quedó el proyecto. Honestamente creo que no es tan fotogénico por esos inconvenientes que tuve durante la costura pero creo que de todos modos fue una buena manera de aprovechar este retazo naranja. En lugar de que esté ahí en desuso, mejor que se convierta en algo útil ❣️.
When I tried it on after finishing it, I realized that those flaws are not that noticeable. Or is it my desire to believe that it was still usable? It's still comfortable so it will have a deserved place in my closet 😃.
Cuando me lo probé después de terminarlo, me dí cuenta de que esos defectos no se notan tanto. ¿O son mis ganas de creer que igual me quedó usable? Igual es cómodo así que tendrá un merecido lugar en mi armario 😃.
The good thing is that I liked this short pattern so I saved it carefully to be able to do others in the future. This project took me about 5 hours between drawing the mold, thinking about how I would cut it and making it. I suppose that when I have a larger fabric where I can accommodate the pattern well, it will take much less time. Meanwhile, I already have a project to enjoy on hot days and with the satisfaction that it has been a good recycling ❤️.
Lo bueno es que este patrón de short me gustó así que lo guardé cuidadosamente para poder hacer otros en el futuro. Este proyecto me tomó como 5 horas entre dibujar el molde, pensar como lo cortaría y confeccionarlo. Supongo que cuando tenga una tela más grande en donde pueda acomodar el molde bien voy a tardar mucho menos. Mientras tanto, ya tengo un proyecto para disfrutar en los días de calor y con la satisfacción de que ha sido un buen reciclado ❤️.
