Espero que estén pasando un buen fin de semana, ya sea en el trabajo o en casa. Hablar de los maestros que tuvimos es un tema muy agradable. Siempre hay algún maestro que no olvidamos y que deja una huella por la que uno se va guiando.

I hope you are having a good weekend, either at work or at home. Talking about the teachers we had is a very nice topic. There is always a teacher that we do not forget and that leaves a mark by which one is guided.
Tuve buenos maestros en primaria. Para mí fue una época muy bonita, ya que me gustaba estudiar y, por cierto, sacaba buenas notas. Tenía profesores que explicaban muy bien, como Ángela. Me gustaban las matemáticas y la lengua española. Esos maestros enseñaban disciplina, abnegación, dedicación y puntualidad. Algunos eran más cariñosos que otros, pero no importa, al final todos eran buenos maestros que nos enseñaron y prepararon para la vida. Como dice el refrán, cada maestro tiene su librito a la hora de enseñar, pero de todos ellos se aprende y se saca algo bueno.
I had good teachers in elementary school. For me it was a very nice time, because I liked to study and, by the way, I got good grades. I had teachers who explained very well, like Ángela. I liked mathematics and the Spanish language. Those teachers taught discipline, selflessness, dedication and punctuality. Some were more caring than others, but it doesn't matter, in the end they were all good teachers who taught and prepared us for life. As the saying goes, each teacher has his or her own little book when it comes to teaching, but you learn from all of them and get something good out of them.
En la primaria me daban consejos para que estudiara mucho y así obtuviera buenas calificaciones y pudiera elegir una buena carrera. Tanto la directora como las maestras de la escuela primaria Elio Llerena, en Alamar, Habana del Este. Me siento muy agradecida porque me dieron una formación de calidad, aparte de lo que me enseñó mi madre en casa.
In elementary school they gave me advice to study hard so that I would get good grades and be able to choose a good career. Both the principal and the teachers at Elio Llerena Elementary School, in Alamar, Habana del Este. I feel very grateful because they gave me a quality education, apart from what my mother taught me at home.
En la secundaria también tuve la suerte de tener buenos profesores y tuve que estudiar un poco más, ya que las asignaturas se fueron complicando. Cuando entré en octavo grado, empecé a estudiar asignaturas como Física y Química, que me gustaban, pero a la que ya no prestaba tanta atención era matemáticas. Aún así, había profesores con deseos de enseñar que impartían las clases con ánimo para formar hombres de bien, no solo profesionales, sin mencionar las actividades recreativas que a veces hacíamos en las escuelas. En el preuniversitario tuve la suerte de coincidir con algunos profesores de la secundaria, como el maestro Juan, de Historia, que era un poco serio, pero muy buen profesional, y Guillermo, que hoy por hoy es amigo mío de Facebook, profesor de Física, una persona simpática y alegre. A veces me lo encuentro en la calle y siempre que me ve me abraza con alegría; es una persona con una energía muy positiva. Su espíritu animado llenaba la clase de entusiasmo y, aunque la física era difícil, a los estudiantes nos daban ganas de estudiarla porque el profesor la hacía ver divertida.
In high school I was also fortunate to have good teachers and I had to study a little more, as the subjects became more complicated. When I entered eighth grade, I began to study subjects such as physics and chemistry, which I liked, but the one I didn't pay as much attention to was mathematics. Even so, there were teachers with a desire to teach who gave classes with the spirit of forming good men, not just professionals, not to mention the recreational activities that we sometimes did in school. In the pre-university I was lucky to meet some high school teachers, such as Juan, a History teacher, who was a bit serious, but a very good professional, and Guillermo, who today is a friend of mine on Facebook, a Physics teacher, a nice and cheerful person. Sometimes I meet him in the street and whenever he sees me he always hugs me with joy; he is a person with a very positive energy. His lively spirit filled the class with enthusiasm and, although physics was difficult, the students felt like studying it because the professor made it fun.
Al terminar el bachillerato, se convocaron dieciocho plazas para estudiar medicina y pude estar entre los elegidos. Estudié el primer semestre, pero tuve que dejar la carrera porque necesitaba empezar a trabajar cuanto antes para ayudar a mi madre y no ser una carga.
When I finished high school, there were eighteen places available to study medicine and I was among those chosen. I studied the first semester, but I had to drop out because I needed to start working as soon as possible to help my mother and not be a burden.
Después estudié un Técnico medio de atención a la salud, que me permitía compaginar trabajo y estudios. Durante la carrera tuve muy buenos profesores, médicos, enfermeras y licenciados de la salud, que me ayudaron en mi formación, y yo puse de mi parte con el estudio continuo, la práctica y el buen trato hacia el paciente y la ética profesional. Profesores como Frank nos enseñaron a tener paciencia y empatía con los pacientes, ya que a veces vienen alterados por el dolor y el estrés de su vida diaria.
Afterwards, I studied an intermediate technician in health care, which allowed me to combine work and studies. During my studies I had very good teachers, doctors, nurses and health care graduates, who helped me in my training, and I did my part with continuous study, practice and good treatment of patients and professional ethics. Professors like Frank taught us to have patience and empathy with patients, since sometimes they come altered by the pain and stress of their daily lives.
En mi especialidad hay que demostrar habilidad y agilidad, pero también calma, porque hay técnicas, como la de poner los yesos, que requieren tiempo según el tipo de lesión. Con los niños no se les puede poner los yesos tan rápido, el yeso tiene que secar bien para que la inmovilización dure y no se parta.
In my specialty, you have to show skill and agility, but also calm, because there are techniques, such as putting on casts, that require time depending on the type of injury. With children, casts cannot be put on so quickly; the plaster has to dry well so that the immobilization lasts and does not break.
Todo esto lo aprendí también con la ayuda de los profesores y maestros que, con amor y paciencia, me compartieron sus clases y sus buenas enseñanzas. También me ha tocado enseñar a poner los yesos a los residentes de ortopedia, estudiantes de medicina y técnicos que comienzan en este campo.
All this I also learned with the help of professors and teachers who, with love and patience, shared their classes and good teachings with me. It has also been my job to teach how to put the casts on to orthopedic residents, medical students and technicians who are starting in this field.
Para mí, la enseñanza y los maestros son muy importantes y necesarios para la educación. En verdad, la educación empieza desde casa, pero es algo primordial que existan los maestros, porque desde primer grado te enseñan a leer y escribir; algunos padres ni siquiera tienen tiempo para eso y todas las asignaturas te enseñan algo para la vida. Además, enseñar es un arte, un don. Los maestros son imprescindibles en nuestra vida.
For me, teaching and teachers are very important and necessary for education. In truth, education starts at home, but it is essential that teachers exist, because from first grade they teach you to read and write; some parents don't even have time for that and all subjects teach you something for life. Besides, teaching is an art, a gift. Teachers are essential in our lives.
