Apreciados lectores, en este Encuentro #15, antes de dar inicio al desarrollo del tema, quiero excusarme por mi ausencia de la semana pasada, ya que estuve dedicada a un problemita de salud; al día de hoy y gracias a Dios, ya resuelto.

El sexismo es una forma de exclusión hacia quienes pertenezcan a un género o sexo y tiene muchas aristas. Personalmente, debo reconocer que me falta mucho por explorar y aprender sobre este fenómeno que ha viajado cual serpiente a través de la historia, ondeando de una época a otra y ha afectado principalmente a niñas y mujeres, considerándolas como seres inferiores a los respectivos masculinos. Si se suma este prejuicio a otros como: diferentes religiones, orígenes geográficos, distintas cultura, el color de la piel, estrato económico-social, nos encontraremos con grupos humanos de altísima vulnerabilidad.
Sexism is a form of exclusion towards those who belong to a gender or sex and has many edges. Personally, I must admit that I still have a long way to go to explore and learn about this phenomenon that has traveled which serpent trought the history, waving from one era to another and has mainly affected girls and women, considering them as beings inferior to their respective male counterparts. If this prejudice is added to others such as: different religions, geographical origins, different cultures, the color of the skin, economic-social stratum, we will find ourselves with highly vulnerable human groups.
Considero que pese a las dificultades que puede conllevar ser mujer, en la época actual y en la cultura occidental, estamos en mejores condiciones que las vividas en el pasado y las que aún viven en otras latitudes. Me siento feliz, por vivir en esta época en que aunque ha perdido romanticismo se ha ganado en acercamiento a la igualdad, en muchos aspectos de la vida cotidiana, incluyendo las posiciones políticas. Es cierto que el sexismo sigue marcando los cargos gerenciales en política y el poder económico. Pero muchas mujeres han logrado destacarse. Aún falta mucho por lograr y hay muchas espinas en el camino, pero también muchas rosas han florecido.
I believe that despite the difficulties that being a woman can entail, in the current era and in Western culture, we are in better conditions than those experienced in the past and those who still live in other latitudes . I feel happy, to live in this time in which, although it has lost romanticism, it has gained an approach to equality, in many aspects of daily life, including political positions. It is true that sexism continues to mark managerial positions in politics and economic power. But many women have managed to stand out. There is still a long way to go and there are many thorns along the way, but also many roses have blossomed.
¿Qué hacer ante el sexismo, mejor dicho, ante las conductas sexistas observables?
La educación sexual abierta, directa y lo más gráfica posible es uno de los caminos para abrir las puertas de la igualdad. La diferenciación sexual va más allá de un pene y una vagina. Hombre y mujer tienen tienen en común ser humanos, sus diferencias superan lo biológico; por lo tanto no hablemos de biología ni de orientaciones o actividades sexuales, hablemos de igualdad de obligaciones, derechos y oportunidades. Y esto nos lleva a un amplio aspecto educativo, dentro del cual la educación sexual es sólo un aspecto.
La difusión de situaciones sexistas en cualquier parte del planeta es otra batalla que podemos librar, en momentos como los actuales en los que la globalización está avanzando. He visto en las redes campañas en contra de la mutilación del clítoris en niñas y otros maltratos a las mujeres. Son hechos abominables que resultan increíbles en pleno siglo XXI. La serpiente del oscurantismo sigue ondeando entre los tiempos y los pueblos. La denuncia abierta, el apoyo global contra el abuso y educación y más educación son factores que irán abriendo nuevas oportunidades.
What to do in the face of sexism, or rather, in the face of observable sexist behavior?
Open, direct and as graphic as possible sexual education is one of the ways to open the doors of equality. Sexual differentiation goes beyond a penis and a vagina. Men and women have in common being human, their differences go beyond the biological; therefore let's not talk about biology or sexual orientations or activities, let's talk about equality of obligations, rights and opportunities. And this brings us to a broad educational aspect, within which sex education is only one aspect.
The spread of sexist situations in any part of the planet is another battle that we can wage, at times like the present in which globalization is advancing. I have seen in the networks campaigns against the mutilation of the clitoris in girls and other mistreatment of women. They are abominable facts that are incredible in the XXI century. The serpent of obscurantism continues to wave between times and peoples. Open reporting, global support against abuse and education and more education are factors that will open up new opportunities.
