Last year I shared here on my blog the trip I made to La Gran Sabana (the Great Savannah), an iconic place of tourism in Venezuela for the extraordinary beauty of its natural landscapes. There were 11 posts in which I reviewed the places I visited during a week in that magical land.
El año pasado compartí aquí en mi blog el viaje que hice a La Gran Sabana, un lugar icónico del turismo en Venezuela por la extraordinaria belleza de sus paisajes naturales. Fueron 11 publicaciones en las que reseñé los lugares que conocí durante una semana por esa mágica tierra.
As it usually happens when we visit an amazing place, we don't stop photographing, so I go back to these archives because I had many images left out of those publications, it was impossible to put them all, but now their time has come 😉.
Como suele suceder cuando visitamos un lugar increíble, no paramos de fotografiar, así que vuelvo a estos archivos porque me quedaron muchas imágenes fuera de esas publicaciones, era imposible ponerlas todas, pero ahora llegó su momento 😉.
La Gran Sabana is located in the south of the country, in Bolivar state, and is part of the Canaima National Park, which has an area of 30,000 square kilometers and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1994.
La Gran Sabana está ubicada al sur del país, en el estado Bolívar, y forma parte del Parque Nacional Canaima, el cual tiene una superficie de 30 mil Km cuadrados y desde 1994 la Unesco lo declaró como Patrimonio de la Humanidad.
In this series of images I show you mostly landscapes that I was capturing on the road, as we went from one place to another. This trip was a Jeep Tour in which each day we visited one or more places and camped each night in a different place, quite an adventure!
En esta serie de imágenes les muestro más que todo paisajes que fui captando por la carretera, cuando íbamos de un lugar a otro. Este viaje fue un Jeep Tour en el que cada día visitamos uno o varios lugares y acampamos cada noche en un sitio diferente, ¡toda una aventura!
I start with the point that is considered as the entrance to La Gran Sabana, this is the Serranía de Lema, where you will see forest, lots of vegetation. A few kilometers later you can see on one side a huge rock of strange shape, is the Piedra de la Virgen (Stone of the Virgin), which dates from the Precambrian period, here there is a tourist stop.
Comienzo con el punto que se considera como la entrada a La Gran Sabana, se trata de la Serranía de Lema, donde verás bosque, mucha vegetación. Unos kilómetros después puedes apreciar a un lado una enorme roca de extraña forma, es la Piedra de la Virgen, la cual data del período precámbrico, aquí hay un parador turístico.
As you continue along the Troncal 10 highway, which crosses the Gran Sabana from north to south, the landscape opens up and your pupils are filled with the immensity that characterizes this region, which is located on the Guiana Shield, the oldest place on the planet.
Al continuar por la carretera Troncal 10, que cruza de norte a sur La Gran Sabana, el paisaje se abre y tus pupilas se llenan con la inmensidad que caracteriza a esta región, la cual se encuentra sobre el Escudo Guayanés, el lugar más antiguo del planeta.
From here you begin to see several tepuis in the distance, which are the plateau-shaped mountains that stand out in the Canaima National Park.
Desde aquí ya comienzas a ver a lo lejos varios tepuyes, que son las montañas en forma de meseta que destacan en el Parque Nacional Canaima.
The most famous one around here, which I had the opportunity to climb on another trip, is the Roraima. There are several points on the road that are viewpoints and if you go with a good guide as I did, she/he will stop so you can better appreciate this unique beauty in the world.
El más famoso por aquí y que tuve oportunidad de subir en otro viaje, es el Roraima. Hay varios puntos en la carretera que son miradores y si vas con un buen guía como lo hice yo, se parará para que puedas apreciar mejor esta belleza única en el mundo.
Although in La Gran Sabana there is wildlife such as the anteater, the armadillo, cunaguaros, otters, among others, it's not easy to see them because they hide in this vast territory away from people, but I leave you this little insect that I got in one of the camps where we spent the night hehehe.
Aunque en La Gran Sabana existe fauna como el oso hormiguero, el armadillo, cunaguaros, nutrias, entre otros, no es nada fácil verlos porque se esconden en este inmenso territorio lejos de la gente, pero les dejo este pequeño insecto que conseguí en unos de los campamentos donde pernoctamos jejeje.
Back to the views, this is another viewpoint towards the tepuis, you can see them slightly in the background, although the day was clear the atmosphere was not very clear. Also interesting here is the soil, it is like a half pink sand.
Volviendo a las vistas, este es otro mirador hacia los tepuyes, se ven ligeramente en el fondo, aunque el día estaba despejado la atmósfera no estaba muy clara. También es interesante aquí la tierra, es como una arena medio rosada.
Being a place with high humidity almost all year round, the landscape is always green here, you get incredible spots to capture beautiful panoramas with those tonalities.
Al ser un lugar con mucha humedad casi todo el año, el paisaje está siempre verde aquí, consigues increíbles puntos para capturar bellas panorámicas con esas tonalidades.
For example the two photos below were taken from a small hill near where we set up camp one day, isn't it beautiful?
Por ejemplo las dos fotos a continuación las hice desde una pequeña colina cercana a donde montamos campamento un día, ¿no es precioso?
In another viewpoint we saw the Roraima tepui again but from another perspective and closer, although the clouds covered it a little its majesty did not diminish.
En otro mirador volvimos a ver al tepuy Roraima pero desde otra perspectiva y más de cerca, aunque las nubes lo tapaban un poco su majestuosidad no disminuyó.
I forgot to mention that Bolivar state has a border with Brazil, so a trip to La Gran Sabana also includes getting to La Linea, and if you have time to cross on foot to the town of Pacaraima.
Olvidé mencionar que el estado Bolívar tiene frontera con Brasil, por eso un viaje a La Gran Sabana también incluye llegar hasta La Línea, y si tienen tiempo cruzar a pie hasta el pueblo de Pacaraima.
As you drive along the road you will see landscapes with rivers, Bolivar state has a lot of water and in La Gran Sabana the main tourist attractions are the waterfalls, the hundreds of natural spas that are in any detour you get around. In my next post I will share unpublished photos of those waterfalls I visited.
Mientras ruedas por la carretera verás paisajes con ríos, el estado Bolivar posee mucha agua y en La Gran Sabana los principales atractivos turísticos son las cascadas, los cientos de balnearios naturales que hay en cualquier desvío que consigas por ahí. En mi próxima publicación compartiré fotos inéditas de esas cascadas que visité.
