Después de estar toda la mañana conociendo el espectacular Aponwao, tal como les conté en la publicación anterior, nos dirigimos al lugar donde íbamos a armar nuestro último campamento de este fabuloso viaje de una semana por La Gran Sabana.
On the road we stopped for a while because some people in the group wanted to pee and we took the opportunity to take photos in the middle of the beautiful savanna landscape with tepuyes (table top mountains) in the background.
En la vía nos detuvimos un rato porque algunas personas del grupo querían orinar y en eso aprovechamos para hacer fotos en medio del bello paisaje sabanero con tepuyes (montañas amesetadas) al fondo.
About an hour and a half later we arrived at the Kawi waterfall, where we set up the tents to spend our last night in these ancestral lands in southern Venezuela. It was barely noon, so we had the whole afternoon to enjoy this place.
Como hora y media después llegamos al Salto Kawi, donde instalamos las carpas para pasar nuestra última noche en estas tierras ancestrales del sur venezolano. Era apenas mediodía, así que teníamos toda la tarde para disfrutar de este lugar.
Several indigenous families are in charge of this camp, there are services such as rental of churuatas (huts), bathrooms, sale of food and handicrafts. They make sure that visitors don't leave garbage lying around or use non-biodegradable soaps to bathe in the river. They are also aware that people don't play music until late at night.
De este campamento se encargan varias familias indígenas, hay servicios como alquiler de churuatas, baños, venta de comida y artesanías. Ellos vigilan que los visitantes no dejen basura por ahí ni utilicen jabones no biodegradables para bañarse en el río. También están pendientes de que la gente no coloque música hasta altas horas de la noche.
They showed us the path to go down to the waterfall and the river and leaving our things ready in the camp, we went there.
Nos indicaron el sendero para bajar hacia la cascada y el río y al dejar nuestras cosas listas en el campamento, nos fuimos para allá.
The first thing I saw when going down to the Kawi Falls was a waterfall and a pool, where there were several people bathing, this is one of the most visited points in La Gran Sabana. The weather was hot and the sun shone on the large slab of jasper that is there and that extends towards the watercourse. We were several companions of the travel group and we immediately took a dip.
Lo primero que vi al bajar hacia el Salto Kawi fue una cascada y una poza, donde había varias personas bañándose, este es uno de los puntos más visitados de La Gran Sabana. El clima estaba caluroso y el sol le daba brillo a la gran laja de jaspe que hay allí y que se extiende hacia el cauce del agua. Estábamos varios compañeros del grupo de viaje e inmediatamente nos dimos un chapuzón.
There are many places to bathe here or you can simply sit on a stone and receive an invigorating massage from the cold running water.
Hay muchos espacios donde bañarse aquí o simplemente te puedes quedar sentada en una piedra y recibir un masaje revitalizante del agua fría que corre.

Como la cámara fotográfica que llevé a La Gran Sabana es a prueba de agua, para divertirnos quise hacer una serie de fotos con el efecto del agua en ellas, a ver ¿qué les parecen?
We stayed for a long time bathing in the well of the first waterfall we saw, which has a certain depth that allows you to swim and jump from some nearby stones.
Nos quedamos un buen rato bañándonos en el pozo de la primera cascada que vimos, el cual tiene cierta profundidad que te permite nadar y lanzarte de algunas piedras cercanas.
Afterwards we went exploring because we were told that there were more waterfalls to see both upstream and downstream.
Después nos fuimos a explorar porque nos dijeron que había más cascadas que ver tanto río arriba como río abajo.
And so it is, we found one with stepped stones that also had a good well to jump into.
Y así es, nos encontramos una con piedras escalonadas que tenía también un buen pozo para lanzarse.
/ Foto por Around four in the afternoon we went up to the area where our camp was to see its surroundings and it has beautiful views of the savannah and the tepuyes. One thing I asked myself while in La Gran Sabana was: where are the animals? Because I didn't see many, and there is fauna, such as monkeys (spider, capuchin and araguato), tapirs, armadillos, jaguars, birds, reptiles... what happens, they told us, is that in a territory as huge as this one they are very difficult to be seen, they have a lot of space to hide from us humans.
Ya como a las cuatro de la tarde subimos al área donde estaba nuestro campamento para conocer sus alrededores y tiene unas bellas vistas hacia la sabana y los tepuyes. Una cosa que me pregunté estando por La Gran Sabana fue: ¿dónde están los animales? Porque no vi muchos, y sí hay fauna, como monos (araña, capuchinos y araguatos), dantas, cachicamos, jaguares, aves, reptiles… lo que pasa, nos dijeron, es que en un territorio tan enorme como este son muy difíciles de ver, tienen mucho espacio a donde esconderse de nosotros los humanos.
At sunset we started to prepare our food with the gas stoves that the guide had prepared every day for that and then we put everything in order because the return to Caracas was going to start around 3:00 in the morning.
Al atardecer nos pusimos a preparar nuestra comida con las cocinas de gas que el guía tenía dispuestas cada día para eso y luego ordenamos todo porque el regreso a Caracas iba a comenzar como a las 3:00 de la mañana.
/ Fotos por Almost all of us were dozing in the Toyota vans until it was already dawn and we made a stop to have breakfast, we were already on our way to the city of Puerto Ordaz.
Íbamos casi todos dormitando en las camionetas Toyota hasta que ya había amanecido e hicimos una parada para desayunar, ya estábamos camino a la ciudad de Puerto Ordaz.
The trip from La Gran Sabana to Caracas is very long, you can spend a whole day on the road, there are more than a thousand kilometers, so during the return we made several stops and when we were about two hours from Caracas and it was already getting dark, the guide told us that for security reasons, so as not to arrive in Caracas at dawn, a girl from the group had offered her house for us to spend the night there.
El viaje de La Gran Sabana a Caracas es muy largo, se puede pasar todo un día rodando, son más de mil kilómetros, así que durante el regreso hicimos varias paradas y cuando estábamos como a dos horas de Caracas y ya estaba anocheciendo, el guía nos dijo que por seguridad, para no llegar a Caracas en la madrugada, una chica del grupo había ofrecido su casa para que pasáramos la noche allí.
We all agreed, this house was in Machurucuto, a town with a beach in Miranda state. We settled between the patio and the living room of the house, those of us who slept outside with our sleeping bags, they warned us to be careful because there were many crabs out there, they climbed everywhere hahaha. Early in the morning we left for Caracas, we had breakfast at a tourist stop along the way and the guide left us at the same point where this wonderful trip began, in the Parque del Este.
Todos estuvimos de acuerdo, esta casa estaba en Machurucuto, un pueblo con playa del estado Miranda. Nos acomodamos entre el patio y la sala de la casa, a los que dormimos afuera con nuestros sacos de dormir, nos advirtieron estar atentos porque había muchos cangrejos por ahí, se subían a todas partes jajaja. Temprano en la mañana salimos hacia Caracas, desayunamos en un parador turístico por la vía y el guía nos dejó en el mismo punto donde comenzó este maravilloso viaje, en el Parque del Este.
