The day before a holiday is usually a flurry and frenzy of activity. For us here in the United States, today is the day before Thanksgiving. A holiday around celebrating all we have to be thankful for. It's a day when a feast is enjoyed with family and/or friends.
This year has been the least frenzied preparation I've ever experienced. I shopped two weeks before. Normally I shop 3-5 days before. Shopping so far in advance took the pressure leading up to today off my shoulders. It felt nice knowing I had everything in the freezer and cupboard. Shopping so far in advance also meant I didn't have to deal with crowds at the store. Which was really nice.
Today, I worked in the morning and then around lunchtime I made the executive decision to shift from work mode to "Out of Office/On Holiday" mode. Which was reminiscent of being let go for a long holiday break back when I was a kid in school. That feeling of liberation and joy. Yep. I'm feeling that right now. It's awesome!
I am taking a short break and then in about an hour or so I will begin baking the cornbread to be used in tomorrow's stuffing. Later tonight I will bake an apple pie which will be enjoyed with tomorrow's breakfast coffee.
What I'm learning from this year's holiday prep is that it certainly pays to be prepared.
