While I don't have the resources (or, more importantly, the know-how) to support games myself, I can at least promote these types of initiatives and lend my support with my ID (like during EU voting).
You're right, much of this is due to the fans who port games to other consoles, but there are also Russians and other Eastern Europeans. While the Russian people don't have a particularly good reputation in the world right now, ordinary people like you and me have done a great deal to ensure that many old game codes and programs survive to this day. Many torrents/direct downloads with old data are thanks to them.
