In my last Starbound post, Autumnia upgraded her protection equipment to be able to face radioactivity on planets and descended into a horrible jungle where prisoners ran riot and where Durasteel ore could be found.
On this journey she also discovered a penchant for paleontology and found several fossils, then on her way back home, backpack full of ore and fossils, she convinced a bandit to become her first crewmate. She's charismatic like that.
Onwards!
After crafting up all the durasteel ore into ingots, I discovered that I needed a lot more resources before being able to make my next set of armour. A lot more.
I was going to need poison, batteries, volatile powder, wires, all sorts of stuff in order to upgrade my crafting tables so I could actually make this armour!
Volatile powder? Is made with core fragments of which I don't have any xD as I thought it was just a material I'd use once and never again. So it was back down to the depths of the world to get some core fragments.
Thankfully that was easy to find. Poison however... I haven't come across any yet on any of my travels. I'll need to go find a toxic planet so I can go harvest any poisonous ooze that may be lingering upon the surface. With that poison, I'll be able to make batteries, and with those batteries, I'll be able to upgrade my crafting table, and with that upgrade, I'll be able to make my new gear!! XD
The first planet we go to in search of poison pools was quite amazing! If I hadn't already set up my base, I would totally choose this planet for my new home. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't find this planet first. xD
Soon First Mate Ashton and I found some poison pools and I quickly slurped up every tiny drop I could find!
At the very bottom of this poison pool was a chest with a cool headpiece inside.
I have found it. The headpiece that will replace my cat ears. XD Now I need to find some aqua wings or something to go with it.
With the poison gathered, I rushed back home and at last upgraded my table and got my gear ready.
It was time.
Time to take a deep breath and prepare myself for the next part of the story quest. The Floran Hunting Grounds. 😬😬😬
With all my bandages and healing items at the ready, my spear sharpened, and my rifle stocked with ammo... I headed off to the little old lady at the space station and told her I was ready to face my trials.
This is the first time I've ever done this dungeon, and on Hardcore mode no less! So... let's be brave, and go forth, and survive this chapter of Autumnia's story/
The dungeon started out quite nicely. Surrounded by other friendly Florans, they seemed quite excited at the prospect of I, a Space Floran, defeating the undefeated champion, Nuru, and taking home the prize.
Buoyed by the confidence of my fellow plant people, I dove down into the depths and started my participation in this annual hunt.
After killing many creatures, I found my way to the first great cavern in these hunting grounds. Outside the door stood another Floran. The fabled Nuru.
She seemed friendly enough and warned me about the other hunters involved in this hunt. They would not look kindly upon me. Which doesn't explain why she was being friendly, but okay!
After exploring the caverns and taking care of all who declared me a foe, I at last found the door to The Beast's Lair. The Beast that I must kill in order to win this hunt and win the grand prize.
My Floran friend Nuru seemed quite excited by this fight. I was less impressed.
Probably due to the fact I may have over-levelled my gear.
I was preparing myself for a difficult fight, instead I just stood there and shot at the creature while Nuru stabbed it with her spear. Occasionally little creatures would drop from the big creature or a rain of poison would be spat from the big creature's mouth. It would've been more dangerous if I had done this earlier.
Making our way back to the top of the area, we declared our victory and I received my prize. The prize the little old lady sought.
I also got Nuru apparently. Well, I didn't get her per se, she wasn't on my ship, but instead she's hanging out with the little old lady at the Outpost and even has a quest for me to participate in some gladiator arena.
A gladiator arena sounds interesting! I accepted her quest and then gave my hard-earned reward to the little old lady. Now she wants me to search for Hylotl artifacts. Those are the asian inspired people I found earlier.
Feeling as though I would probably still be overpowered for the next story dungeon, I zoomed off in search for the asian architecture and prepared to face that which awaited me.

Aaaand, that's when I got my new PC and stopped playing Starbound. 🙂 Unfortunately, due to my son using my Steam account on another device, I don't use cloud saving features and I was daft and didn't think to copy various savefiles to usb before moving over to the new computer. xD
I may do another playthrough at some point, but not for a while. I hope you liked these Starbound chapters though and for now it's time to play some other games! 😊
Until next time! 😄
