Almost 2 months past since I posted about my mini balcony garden ... Time flies! I'm happy to share an update.
Plants slow down their growing speed as it already gets autumn-ish in my region in Germany. I replaced some spring/summer plants to autumn/winter plants such as chard, broccoli, kale etc. I sow some leafy veggie seeds too.
Over the summer we had not good but enough amount of tomatoes for my daughter to snack on the balcony. Fire beans are easy going as always and it's our favorite. So we definitely grow them again next summer. I must make a list what I liked this summer to plant the balcony next year before I forget ...
One of the happiest moment was that I had the first harvest of bitter melon yesterday. They grow slowly probably because of the new soil (temperature and sunshine were enough). Bitter melon is one of my favorite summer veggies, which is popular in Japan.
I like to stir fry it with veggies, egg and Tofu. Perfect fit with rice 🍚 🥢 It's my 10th year in Germany but my stomach is still Japanese 😁
I have two more bitter melons in the balcony but I only eat one. One is to keep seed for next year.
Other than that I prepare some plants to bring inside during Autumn/Winter. I moved chillies to smaller pots. I try to let them over winter indoor this year. According to some blog articles, they grow like a tree. Let's see.
That was about my mini balcony garden update after while. Happy gardening to all!
