The last few days I haven't been doing much with my plants, but today wanted to check on our little pea plant seedlings. They are doing so well climbing up the little runners I placed for them. I'm hoping they'll be able to reach the trellis soon and then explode with flowers. I can't wait. They are approximately 12cm tall now so they still have a way to go. LL is so looking forward to being able to eat the peas directly off the vines.
Our tomato plant has also shot up and is looking great, perhaps it's enjoying the autumn temperatures and higher rainfall. The chestnut tree is shedding more and more leaves every day, littering the lawn with orange and brown. I don't mind at all and I'll rake up the leaves and add it to the base of the tree as a mulch layer to keep the roots warm as the temperatures drop. Along with the autumn leaves, we've been treated to such gorgeous sunsets in the same tones. Those pinks, reds, yellows and oranges never cease to take my breath away, I don't think I will ever get sick of seeing these skies.
The other exciting thing that we learned recently is that this tree alongside the house is a Cherry Guava tree! I made my day by asking my sister if it was one because she didn't know that she even had one and then when I showed her the fruit and she tasted one, her eyes went wide and her whole face brightened.
The reason this is special and sentimental is that our mom really love Cherry Guavas. Her mother and grandmother grew them and made cherry guava jam. My mom grew one but it never got very big and it didn't produce very many guavas. My sister's tree is massive in comparison. I've never seen a Cherry Guava tree this size. It was covered in fruit, so much so that every morning for weeks it had been attracting Mousebirds that would congregate in the tree and have their fruity breakfast while striking up a conversation with each other.
It may seem trivial to some, but this small synchronicity was a wonderful gift to my sister.
I know that I missed the challenge but I'm often late to the party, I figure better late than never.
