Once you start growing your own food your dependency on food bought elsewhere gradually shifts. the more you grow, the less you purchase.
then, something interesting starts happening.
as you consume what grows in your backyard, you consume what naturally grows in your local season. in other words, the garden dictates what is ripe and ready to be eaten in every given day.
you no longer consume fruit that is grown half the world away that is completely out of season where you live.
for example, at the moment, all Cabbages and Kales in our garden start flowering. many of these flowers in their early stage are Broccoli like and highly nutritious.
so every 2 or 3 days, I pick many of these for lunch. that also make sense because flowering takes a lot of the plants energy and is taken away from leaf growth.
so we have a win-win-win situation here.
this all just makes so much sense. it is good for your health, for your pocket and for the planet.
