Don't let this picture fool you. Garlic chives...my top 3 favorite herb of all time. The day you taste them, you will agree. Short intro to this delicious tasting herb. A very hardy, easy to grow perennial. Plant it just once and not only will it come back each and every year, it will spread itself around and grow in other places. Garlic chives differ from regular chives in that they are flat, like grass, not hollow tubes. Asian cooking calls for garlic chives frequently. The best part is the unbelievable taste. You wouldn't think that this flat herb that looks like a piece of grass could taste so much like garlic. Real garlic. Its crazy. So what can you make....not a particular recipe here, just ideas.
- Use in any and all fresh "salads". Cucumber, tomatoes, ceci beans and olive oil.
- Stir fry mix-in.
- Make pesto. Basil is not the only herb you should be using to make pesto.
- Top your eggs with them.
- Use them when you make pickled veggies.
- Homemade soup loves them.
- Add to your "parsley" potatoes with butter.
- Make your own compound butter with them. Add horseradish.
Pick some and eat them raw. Just eat them.
