On Saturday I was up at 5AM and in the garden by 6AM. I finished the amending and mulching in Row 1. I moved onto Row 2 and got that weeded. But when I reached Row 3 and saw the mess I had to deal with, I decided I better stop while I was ahead. The bee balm and peppermint had grown into the walkway a LOT! It was going to be a job to clear it out. So I’d wait to do it when I was fresh.
The green “coins” are forming on the honesty. They are really seed pods, but turn silvery when ripe.
Every now and then one of these fungus, called Deadman’s Fingers, appears in the wood chips in the New Herb garden.
So I got my pictures and notes, and cleaned up the mess.
We’d had some terrific winds on Thursday and Friday and there were a lot of branches down from the white oak tree. I wasn’t tired, just getting hot from the sun, so I decided to clean them up while they were mostly in the shade. I have to mow on Sunday and didn’t want to do it before I started. It’s going to be a scorcher on Sunday.
Deep blue sky like this and next to no breezes, you know it’s going to get hot.
Tom stopped by midday. He and family have been gone on vacation for the last 2 weeks. So we spent over an hour getting caught up and looking at vacation photos.
I picked this DVD up from the free table at the Senior center on Friday. It’s a SUPER cool movie about how much music can help Alzheimer patients. So when he left, I sat down to watch it.
In the middle of it another BuyNothing person came for seedlings and commented on the garlic in the Small garden. My helper friend had cut some of the scapes and the rest needed to be done. So I cut them and gave them to her. I still have plenty left from last year.
I saw a notice that cherries were on sale at the co-op so I asked my brother if he wanted cherry chicken salad for supper. He picked up 2 lbs, 1 for the meal and one for snacking.
While we waited for supper to cool, we got the little old AC out of the cellar and into the office window. It’s well taped against the mosquitoes!! I’m as ready as I can be for the big heat wave heading this way.
On Sunday I intend to get out really early and get the sugar pod peas picked, and hopefully processed before going out to mow the lawn. Fortunately that’s all this week. Then I plan to spend the rest of the day in the office with the AC.
