Hey everyone,
I'm here to discuss an interesting concept that could help individuals living in impoverished areas of south Baton Rouge generate income: farming renewable commodities such as bamboo and vetiver.
In recent years, bamboo and vetiver have been used in various industries like textiles, biofuel, and even cosmetics. In an area such as south Baton Rouge, these renewable commodities could be a great source of income. The resources are cost-effective to produce and are environmentally-friendly. Moreover, they provide a sustainable source of income for people living in the area.
It's important to note that farming these commodities requires skill and knowledge. To ensure success, we need to have the support of local organizations that can provide technical assistance and training to farmers in the area.
This plan aims to address edible food contamination by replacing food crops with cash crops while still providing training the local community to grow and farm these cash crops as an alternative solution. This approach may also be beneficial for addressing concerns about the safety of community gardens.
While it would not provide food It would offer environmental benefits as it can be sold off to others who would need the biomass for value added inputs such as animal feed, composting or higher value goods. Spring time is coming up im working on a plan of action, I'm excited about the possibilities.
As the current economic model struggles with the scarcity of affordable energy, discussions must take place to find solutions to the issues that arise from this scarcity. One potential solution could be to increase productivity in areas such as commodity farming and using renewable resources as inputs. This could provide a buffer for individual incomes by creating locally sourced goods that can be used to produce more valuable products, thus supporting the local economy.
