Have you ever tried the larvae of the coconut rhinoceros beetle?
Well, I've seen this a lot around here, but it never occurred to me that you could eat it. Until I watched a video on the internet of someone eating it. I also did some research and discovered that this is a popular delicacy in Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand, but I've never tried it in my life.
The coconut rhinoceros beetle lays its eggs in rotting coconuts. My friend informed me that it is high in protein since they consume the decaying bits of the coconut.
So he dared me to eat it raw as well as cooked. So, why not? If other people can eat it, why can't I? It's just that I need to shift my attitude/mindset in order to consume it.
How did it turn out? Well, the first task caused me to puke. Because the legs tried to grab onto my lips even after I sucked its belly dry when I held its head and put its belly in my mouth. It's a little like creamy milk in texture. It was my first time eating it raw, therefore it didn't go as planned.
Then there's the matter of eating it once it's been cooked. My friend simply fried it to prepare it. When I tasted it, I thought to myself, "This is better than eating it raw." It was crunchy and wonderful, just like bacon, especially when accompanied by a sauce.
So what are you waiting for?
