Kuching waterfront
A must visit for all tourist who visit Kuching. Hi.. it is a Saturday and I hope your happy and healthy... I am going to share some night shots that I've taken when I was in Kuching.
The Kuching Legislation building
This building sits opposite of the waterfront and is lit up every night. There is a bridge that links from the main waterfront to the other side of the river. The bridge changes colour.
The waterfront of Kuching as well as the Daru Hanna bridge
It was raining so I couldn't go on the bridge when I was here. But I will update it on another post, the view from the bridge a few days later.
The Astana
Astana = Palace
Built 1870 by Charles Brooke, the son of James Brooke as a gift to his wife , Margaret Alice Lili de Windt. On this trip, one of the things I wanted to do was to visit the Astana and Fort Margherita. But I did not have enough time. Will do that on the next visit when I collect my wife's passport.
James Brooke would be really proud that what he had built still exist till today. Still well maintained. What would it have been like in the eyes of the man himself. A huge chunk of Sarawak used to belong to the Brunei Kingdom until James Brooke came.
Waterfront hotel and Plaza Merdeka
It was already 10PM and there were still loads of people around the streets walking. Cars drove pass by.
Closer shots of the Sarawak Legislative building
The building that determines laws that are to be passed for the state of Sarawak. The bridge closes at 10pm. Beautiful riverside view. Scenic and calm. A great way to end the night. There are also river cruise here.
SQUARE TOWER
Built in 1870, it was once a prison. This building existed way before Malaysia gained its independence in 1957. Malaysia used to be known as Malaya. Singapura some decades ago joined Malaya and hence the SI was added into Malaya and now Malaysia.
I checked google and this tower is also a restaurant but It wasn't open when I was there. I would have love visiting the inside. I love historical sites. Imagine this place when it was still a prison. Prisoners tortured... died.
Street view
Kuching is huge. Most lanes here are four lanes wide and roundabouts with roads that cut through them.
The old court house
Completed in 1874, was an administrative centre of the government of Sarawak. Now, it has been converted into Sarawak Tourism complex. So much history in a city.
The night was getting late
