“Children are our most valuable resource.” — Herbert Hoover, 31st President of the United States
The Ministry
Every Saturday, our Church's Youth will conduct an extension Bible Class where they are grouped into 4-5 teams. Each team has a respective area to gather and teach the children the Word of God and Bible Stories.
This is the day when the children will learn the Word of God for their soul since Monday to Friday they're learning academics for their brain/knowledge. A feeding for their little precious soul it is.
For almost a year, God had put a desire in our hearts to conduct a Children's Feeding Ministry. For months we prayed for it. At least once a month schedule of feeding. And finally, that Saturday, we scheduled the area of Barangay Clavera to have the first feeding.
As Filipino, whether in school or at home, the most known food that we can cook easily during there is feeding is porridge or "Lugaw" in our dialect. And guess, this is what we decided to prepare for that day, specifically Chicken Porridge or "Pospas/Sospas"
Let me share with you first how did I cook it.
(Note: I am not a Professional Cook but I can cook. 😊)
The Ingredients
- Rice for the porridge
- Chicken, preferably breast part.
- Onions
- Garlic
- Ginger
- Onion Springs
- Carrots
- Salt
(I was not able to take pictures of it because I was running out of time that day.)
The Procedure
The first thing I did was cook the rice porridge since it will take time. I used two big pots. Put 8 cups of rice in each pot and add water until half full part of the pot and bring it to a boil.
Stirred it constantly so that the rice in the bottom will not get overcooked. Added more water to maintain the porridge's consistency when it becomes sticky.
While waiting for the rice porridge, boiled the chicken for 10-15 minutes with onion, ginger, and salt for the taste.
Separated the chicken broth from the chicken meat (turned into strips).
I minced all the spices (onion, garlic, ginger, onion spring, and carrots) since most of the kids don't like to eat spices. Just like me when I was a kid.. hehehe.
Sauteed the garlic, onion, and ginger until it smelled yummy 😋. Added the minced carrots and spring onions and sauteed for additional 2 minutes.
Then mixed some of the cooked porridge into the pan with the sauteed spices, added the chicken broth, and let it boil.
Added salt and seasonings to taste yummier and after a minute or two, put all that is in the pan back into the big pots again, and there made the final taste of the porridge.
Ten minutes and it's ready to serve. Mmmm smells good to my tummy 😁. I forgot it's for the children.
As we were going to the area, we could see the excitement of the children waiting afar. And not only the children were excited but also our team felt excitement and joy while heeding to the area.
It was on time that they were already finished with their Bible class when we arrived. They were bringing their own bowl and spoon. After feeding their Spiritual Life it's time to feed them food for their body.
Looking at their happy faces filled our hearts with joy.
Mmmm..yummy. But be careful it's hot.
They all fell in line and each of them waited for their turn.
Not all things can be bought with money. Just like the happiness and feeling of fulfillment that we had during that day. All of the sweat, tiredness, and tears shed because of the smoke while cooking was all worth it.
Praying for more areas and children to feed. This is just one of the ministries we have in our Church. And so thankful to God be the Glory for all who supported the ministry.
That's all for this blog. Thank you for your time spent reading. See you around. 😘
