The name is "Surabi", Surabi is a traditional food in Indonesia, some regions usually have a different appearance as a characteristic, especially in the topping section.
I categorize it as a type of snack, because it takes several servings to fill the stomach.
I've tried it a few years ago, not too many people sell this type of food around where I live, because this is a traditional type of food that maybe most young people rarely eat, maybe this is just a personal opinion, because I rarely eat it, maybe some only once a year, well because usually this type of food is popular in rural areas.
When traditional types of food are sold in urban areas, there needs to be innovation to suit the tastes and tastes of urban people in general.
This innovation is what makes traditional food develop and can be liked by many people.
Generally, the 'Serabi' that I know from the Bandung area, only use the "Kinca" toping, which is a sauce made from a mixture of brown sugar, coconut milk, and pandan leaves. In fact, I usually eat it without toppings.
In my hometown, usually Surabi is sold by an old man and peddled around the village, why are parents selling him? Because usually young people rarely have the expertise to make it, again this is just my personal opinion, which I pay attention to.
The price for one Surabi is very cheap, which is IDR 2,000.00 or about 0.14 $ USD, each region may have a price difference.
A place that has innovated traditional Surabi snacks not far from where I live now is called "Surabi Bingung", the last time I bought Surabi at this place was about six years ago, the condition of the place hasn't changed much since the last time I was there, a little renewal.
This time, I decided to eat it with the black coffee I ordered at the shop next door, so I ordered it by take away, to be honest I was very confused by the many choices of toppings.
Surabi can also be ordered online, so you can eat it without having to come directly to the Surabi shop.
Although the main ingredients for making Surabi are still the same, and with the same basic appearance as I've seen elsewhere, they are made of wheat flour, rice flour, coconut milk, eggs and other ingredients.
Which is cooked by burning in a special place, namely a place made of clay.
While waiting for the Surabi I ordered to be finished, I decided to take pictures of every corner of the shop, so I could show it to my readers.
The place is quite spacious with many tables and chairs for customers, the open area facing the road, decorated with many lights, is quite modern.
I ordered a serving with choice of green tea topping, for IDR 10,000.00 or around 0.70 $ USD. The price is quite affordable, although usually in the village, I can get several portions for the same price. However, with a fairly affordable price we can enjoy delicious traditional food with a variety of topping choices and a comfortable enough place to eat it, it's no wonder why this Surabi shop has lasted quite a long time, and is always full of visitors.
The Surabi that I ordered take away, wrapped in styrofoam and plastic, there was a plain Surabi serving, with a small container filled with green tea sauce, I also poured green tea sauce over Surabi, to cover the whole Surabi, sweet green tea sauce mixed with Surabi has a delicious blend.
Everyone certainly has their own choice in enjoying traditional food, either the original way without any innovation, or traditional food that has been innovated like the Surabi menu that I ate this time.
Next time I will try another menu, I hope you don't get bored reading it.
Thank you everyone.
Enjoy!
