Today was Chinese Winter Solstice Festival or in Chinese we commonly called it as Dongzhi (ε¬θ³) Festival. This festival usually fall on the date of 21 Decemeber or 22 December annually. During this festival, my family will gather to having our dinner together.
No public holiday for this festival in my country, Malaysia but we're able to celebrate it at night after work (for family members who working).
Before I start my story, I would like to wish you all especially people who celebrating it Happy Dongzhi Festival η₯δ½ δ»¬ε¬θ³θεΏ«δΉ
FAMILY GATHERING
Although I'm not full Chinese or my race was Sino-Kadazan (Dad 1/2 Chinese and Mom Kadazan), I'm still celebrating Dongzhi Festival with my family. Its a must to celebrate this festival every year at parent house to pay respect.
This year celebration, me, , my younger sister, Dad and Mom (5 family members) having our dinner at home. We miss out one of the family member, my younger brother. Currently he working at Pulau Pinang, Malaysia which need him to flight back home. He will back home next year for 1 week for Chinese New Year celebration.
Me and not yet marry but he already consider part of our family now. π
My Mom had cooked 3 dishes and 2 dishes was bought by my Dad from restaurant near my home (takeaway).
The 5 dishes as below πππ₯: -
- Paikut Wong - Sweet and sour pork ribs
- Tofu mixed vegetables
- Claypot sliced fish with tofu and vegetables
- Fried sliced smoked duck
- Chu Kiok - Pig trotter's in black vinegar
All of these dishes we ate it with rice.
After The Family Assemble minus 1 or all of us family members already at home (except my brother) and the meals ready on table, we ready for dinner now. My Dad π€€ (shirtless) looking at the dishes while waiting others to sit on the dining chair to start the dinner. Did you saw my dog, Uku Chan? πΆ
My family usually having meal (breakfast/lunch/dinner) alone or different time with each other in the kitchen. We only sit on the same dining table and same time having our meal when festive or birthday celebration.
Uku Chan ask for some food too under the table while we having our dinner.
TANG YUAN
Tang Yuan ζ±€εοΌ glutinous rice ball or sweet dumpling dessert and is a must to having it during this DongZhi Festival.
There was many way to cooks it but my Mom boiled the Tang Yuan in sweet red bean soup with milk. I prefer without milk π.
We having this Tang Yuan as dessert after 1 hour of our dinner. Here my sister trying to avoid me to take picture on her eating the Tang Yuan beside the Christmas tree. I got it π
This was my bowl of Tang Yuan. I ate it 2 bowls π just now.
After done eating, all members do their own activities. The end.
