Nature, works all the time to create balance, in order to stay in a state of equilibrium. Everything is co operating and communicating with each other, when change is introduced, it will find ways to adjust and adapt, bringing everything back into balance again. When we as humans are able to understand and embrace this, we can begin to create the best conditions for growth and put changes into motion, that will benefit our natural spaces. From our gardens, to public spaces that we use with others.
Many people like to keep a manicured garden, because they enjoy the esthetics. But really, those type of gardens only serve to please us, unless there are some plants that attract insects. But most people, tend to try and kill the very insects, that are there to bring things back into balance.
When we become open and willing to see how everything is connected,it transforms our lives. We realize that nothing happens in isolation and every action creates an connection, whether positive or negative. We are constantly communicating with the world around us, creating relationships through all of our senses.
This is what learning and growth are all about! Understanding that it is not only our actions, but our thoughts and feelings that have an effect, that ripple out into the earth.
This is one of our greatest gifts, as creators!
When we create our own gardens, or tend to land near us, we get the opportunity to explore these relationships and how our thoughts alone effect the environment.
It also gives us a wonderful opportunity to re educate ourselves, to begin even, to break down old belief systems. To empower ourselves, by becoming more in-tune with ourselves and trusting our intuition to guide us.
This is the power of immersing oneself in the natural world, we return back to a more natural way of living, reconnecting with the beautiful wild and essential part of ourselves. The journey begins with familiarizing yourself with the native plants that grow around you. Finding ways in which you can incorporate them into your harden.
Most of the native plants, are unfortunately still seen as weeds and are disposed of. Such powerful medicine disregarded, highly nutritious plants ripped up,this is truly a reflection of how out of balance some of us humans are.
But I invite you to reconnect with the wild. To get out their and get to know the plants that grow in all the wild edges that still exist.
We begin to develop relationships with all of these plants, we begin to experience, how all things are connected, the magical interconnected web of life and thus, it allows us to break down these barriers of separation.
This age old idea that we are apart from nature. I grew up eating nettles, they were added to soup and potatoes, they were in abundance all around me.
Adding these plants to our diet, using them as medicine, allows us to expand our knowledge and once again deepen our relationship with them. You will find, that what you need to heal you, is provided by nature. You just need to open yourself up to her teachings, to the way in which she communicates with us. Let the wild grow in your garden, watch it flourish and bring more wildlife back into your space.
My gardens are always wild, with no soil exposed and very inch covered in green. I don't believe in weeding, unless it is very invasive. I certainly don't use any products that will harm any insects.
If you are patient and give nature time to adjust to what you have planted amongst the native plants, you will find that the wildlife (i.e predators) needed to keep the insect population down, will arrive, because as I already stated, nature always finds a way to bring things back into balance.
Nothing in nature is ever forced, it should never be forced and the above, is a perfect example of why that is. It is so important to leave wild areas in your garden, especially the edges, where insects and wildlife can nest and live. Where we get to witness the diversity that exists, that can exist.
I have so many wonderful wild plants growing around me, plantain seems to frame every walk way and in the spring I rejoice at the sight of the chickweed and cleavers that populate the land. Dandelion, fennel, mullein and wild lettuce is in abundance at that time as well. There is also some wild asparagus, thyme, rosemary, lavender and sage. Nettles are not so plenty, so when I do find a patch, I get so excited and have to announce it to all who drop by.
Hypericum grows well, on the top terrace of the land, that I still call home, I love to make infused oil with both it and calendula.
I am almost really fortunate to have am abundance of Aloe Vera on the land. The more I learn about this amazing plant, the more I use it in my daily life. Right now, I like to add it to my smoothies . It is such a super healer and has such a calming affect on me!
Every time I am outdoors connecting with the many plants that nourish and heal me, I deepen my connection to nature. Taking my place in the beautiful interconnected web of life. As I focus on these beautiful wild plants, I extend that focus into the wild fertile places of my own existence and connect with my own intuitive nature.
