parkrun is a worldwide network of free weekly 5km events. These generally happen at 9am every Saturday. You register to get a barcode that will be scanned to record your time, but there are no prizes or fees for participants. You can just walk if you want to get out for some exercise. It relies on volunteers giving a little of their time and that can be as often as you want.
This community is dedicated to gathering information about those events. We should pin them to the map and use the #parkrun tag to make the posts easy to find. If you are travelling then you can check the map for nearby events and possibly find information about things like:
- Parking and other travel information.
- Toilets and refreshments.
- The type of course and possible hazards.
- The typical number of runners.
Be sure to include plenty of photos.
Some of this information is available on the parkrun site, but we can expand on that and make it more interactive. If you run at one of the listed events then you can add your own review in a comment. Some people on Hive travel a lot and like to visit parkrun locations, so there is scope to build quite a list.
Please link to the official page of the event so people can check it is still active or if anything has changed.
We welcome suggestions on how this can be made more useful. One thought is to include a hashtag for each country using the nation code, e.g. parkrun-uk or parkrun-de.
This is not intended for people to post their all running activities and posts will be moderated. You can log your runs on Hive via the service if you use Strava. It is allowed do a one-off post here for an event that includes your run if it also includes useful information about the event.
There is already a parkrun community on Hive, but it appears to be dormant and the owner has not been active in some time.
