As you may or may not have seen over the last couple of years, I have made multiple attempts to grow superhot peppers in the garden. Growing peppers in Holland outdoors is already a challenge because of the outside temperature, so when you are trying to get the seeds to sprout, this needs to be done indoors at a temperature above 25 degrees Celsius. I have tried this a couple of times now already, and the conclusion is that my time management isn’t really that good. Yes, I do get the plants to sprout and grow, but by the time they develop flowers and really have a chance of ‘getting knocked up’ (you know something with birds and bees and so), it was often already too late in the season.
This year we pulled a different approach. Hubby went to a special grower to get a tiny plant and we also put this in a gigantic pot immediately this time. What they say is that pepper plants need a pot of minimum 40 cm diameter for the roots to actually have some space. We also got different types of peppers, and sure because of moving the pots a bit every time to the perfect location, I am not sure which one is which one anymore. Nice right ;)
The good news this time is that one of the plants was doing really well I guess mostly because of the weather in Holland at the moment. With steady temperatures above the 20 degrees and loads of sun, the plants are having a good time and they really are starting to give! I must admit they are also in the vicinity of a blackberry bush and that one has a crazy amount of bees hoovering around, so no problem in the flowers here.
But as said because of the moving of the pots I didn’t know which one is which one anymore, and I have 4 different types. The biggest question on this one is if it is a ghost pepper, or a reaper pepper. And I think it is a ghost peppers because it is turning out so wrinkly. Did I mention these guys are crazy hot? And the bush is full of them? And that I am afraid to touch the peppers with my bare hands?
I am just super siked that the project turned out to work this year, and that it really seems that the pepper fest will be going down. Maybe I have some green hands after all in the end? Or is this the age making me wiser and more into the gardening? Hmmm
