Stortorget - The Grand Square in Gamla Stan

In March, the weather has been very nice and the walking days have been very pleasant.

A short walk from Stockholm Palace is a tourist attraction called Stortorget.　It is a large square in Gamla Stan (Old Town) and is always crowded with tourists.

Gamla Stan (Old Town), located in the center of Stockholm from among the 14 archipelagos, is a very popular tourist destination, and its central district, Stortoget, is home to beautifully colored buildings.

The Stockholm Stock Exchange used to be located here, and the building has now been converted into the Nobel Prize Museum.　The Nobel Prize-shaped chocolates sold there are very popular in Japan, and I buy them as gifts for my mother and relatives whenever I return to Japan.

The café in the Nobel Museum has chairs the Nobel Prize winners signed their signature on the chairs.　So, when you go there, please visit the cafe there.　It will be one of the fun things to see the back of the chair you sat on and see which laureate has signed it.

The square is very famous historically, as it was once the site of Stockholm Bloodbath, the execution site of Swedish noblemen after Denmark and Sweden had a conflict in 1520.　Today, there are no such signs and the square is very beautiful.　There are many restaurants, bars, and plenty of cafes to relax in.

I often go to a cafe here called " Grillska Huset " which is really relaxing and I highly recommend it.　After visiting the Nobel Prize Museum, I recommend you to have a fika here.

３月に入り、天気が良い日が続きとても気分がよい散歩日和が続いている。

ストックホルム宮殿から少し歩いたことろに、Stortorgetという観光地があります。　Gamla Stan （旧市街）の中にある大広場で、いつもここは観光客で賑わっています。　とくにスウェーデンはコロナ規制が撤廃され、今では欧州各地からの観光客で賑わっていました。

14つある群島からストックホルムの中心街にあるこのGamla Stan（旧市街）は観光客に大人気の場所で、その中心街であるStortogetにはきれいに彩りされた建物が立っています。

昔はここにストックホルム証券取引所があったようですが、今はその建物がノーベル賞博物館に改造されています。　そこに売られている、ノーベル賞の形をしたチョコは日本ではとても人気で、わたしも日本に帰国するたびに母親や親せきにプレゼントとして買って帰っています。

ノーベル博物館内にあるカフェはその椅子の裏側に、ノーベル賞を受賞した授賞者が椅子にサインしています。　だから、行った時にはぜひそこのカフェに行ってみてください。　自分が座った椅子の裏を見て、どの授賞者がサインしたかを見るのも、楽しみの１つになると思います。

かつてはここで、デンマーク王国との抗争があり、スウェーデン貴族が処刑された場所でもあるようで、歴史的にもとても有名な広場です。　今ではそのような面影はなく、とてもきれいな広場になっています。　多くのレストランやバー、そしてリラックスできるカフェがたくさんあり、すこし観光につかれたときはここに訪れて少し一息を入れるのがおすすめです。

わたしがよくいくカフェをここにあって、「Grillska Huset」というカフェは本当にリラックスできてとてもお勧めです。　ノーベル賞博物館に観光に行った後は、ここでフィーカすることをお勧めします。
