I felt as slow as a caterpiller today!
But I have been working hard trying to improve my zone 2 running base over the past couple of weeks. They say building a more effective easy running base will eventually help me run faster. It has not been easy trying to keep my heart rate under 122 beats per minute, espically when trying to go up hills. Someone actually walked past me this morning on one of the steeper sections LOL. I can actually walk faster than I can run in zone 2 up a hill too but the idea is to try improve the running efficiency no matter how slow I am going. I ran as much as I could today but there was a few times on the 93m of elevation gain, fire trail, gravel course that my heart rate spiked too much and I had to walked.
Overall even with a few spikes I managed to keep an average of 118 heart beats per minute but I finished right at the back of the 57 people that showed up on this hot and humid summer morning.
48:16 was one of my slowest 5 kilometres ever but was still happy to complete my 472nd parkrun and hopefully I can run a little faster in zone 2 next week.
