I read the reviews about a restaurant called Popeyes
And we decided to try it one day but they were closed even though maps told us they were open, this happens a lot so I've noticed. Either way, later that week we walked past them and saw they were packed! We saw one free table at the boulevard which was a great spot and sat down. Too bad that it was super windy that evening and therefore within 20 minutes we were actually feeling cold sitting there and we only had our drinks while we didn't order the food yet. Thankfully, there was one free spot inside where we could sit and so we did. I'm happy we did because honestly, that evening the wild was a bit chilly and we never took any coat with us so far, so that would have been an issue sitting there for a few hours. The downside of eating directly at the boulevard on a windy day, lol.
There was a gathering of people
And it was so chill to hear them having fun and lots of chatter in Spanish, In these moments, we just take it all in and enjoy the chatter around us. This is truly something that I can enjoy a lot. Later on, the kids of this group of people had a little football match on the beach, pretty cool as it was already 11 PM. This is something totally normal here though, we are also more alive at night since we arrived here. It's just much more fun going outside in the evening when it's cooler and you find all the locals gathering in cozy bars and restaurants. I love this lifestyle and to be honest, I also embraced the siesta now that I can. It's summer, so no obligations to pick up a kid from school, I'm just giving in to the need for some afternoon rest when I feel I should. The heat is doing this as well as the morning walks that I try to have as often as possible. I can really feel it in my body that once the heat starts to appear (37+ degrees Celcius) I get this dip and get tired, but where I used to feel like I wasted my day before we got back to Spain, I get more alive during the evenings now. Therefore, it's all good.
The food
Our daughter was clear, chicken nuggets were the only thing she wanted, of course with fries. Boring, yes, she's at that age where healthy food is a struggle unless it comes hidden in a smoothie. I wasn't too sure about my pick this evening and went for the "safe" bet a chicken schnitzel with a fried egg and some fries on the side. My boyfriend was hoping for paella but we didn't know we needed to order this upfront (apparently, this is the case most of the time, so we learned) and therefore he picked the pork tenderloin with pepper sauce. We wondered why there were no vegetables to be found on our plates. I guess people that eat there always go for the less healthy stuff, just like we did that night, haha.
It was not great but good enough
We definitely ate a lot better at several places, but the ambiance here was nice and we were happy to sit somewhere not too far from our apartment that week. Our daughter doesn't like to wait long for the food once it's ordered so we were happy that we brought her Gameboy because it took pretty long that evening due to the big group of people that were sitting there as well. We went back here another day, too bad that the second time, they charged us double the drinks and I did not notice this until the day we left and had no time to go back to complain about it. I don't even think it was an honest mistake but this just means we will not go back there if we will be at that coast again in the future. Thankfully the place wasn't too expensive so it was shit but not a huge cost.
Lesson learned, always check the receipt, especially if you're having a nice chat with the waitress while paying! :)
