It's been a hot summer! A dry summer. A summer that shows us what summers will be like from now on, a proof that global warming is not a story.
Today is Friday. Today it rained after more than two months of drought. Today I had to go to the market.
#MarketFriday, a challenge initiated and hosted for a very long time and with great care by Denise, , proposes us to share our shopping experiences. If we think that "Everything is for sale" and "Nothing is free" we understand what a huge field of activities this challenge covers. This is one of the causes of the success of this challenge. The other is Denise!
When I say market, I think first of the market. The market in my neighborhood on the outskirts of Bucharest. Bucharest, the capital of a country called Romania. I always have to repeat this, this is the fate when you live in a small and relatively unknown country if you do not live in Europe. If you live on another continent and still have heard of Bucharest, Romania ... it means that you are passionate about geography!
The market next to me where I go almost every day but certainly every Friday, to respect this challenge, was presented by me many times here, I got bored of it, but now I want to talk about it again because now I have a novelty ...
Market in the Rain!
Yes, as I said, it finally rained in our city. After months of heat.
The rain was not an impediment to going to the market. It was a pleasure. I remember that in my youth I really liked to walk in the rain, without an umbrella and a raincoat. I liked the water to wet all my clothes ... of course, only in the summer. Now I get less wet, but I'm much older.
I don't have much to say about the market, I want to show you more what a market is like in the rain. So the photos, taken in more difficult conditions, I hope will show more.
There are three main areas in the market where there are sellers and buyers. A modernized market, with a new hall, with lights and air conditioning. It looks like a supermarket and I don't care, the prices are higher for the products that are actually imported. I'm not going to show this here.
Here the rain does not penetrate and does not affect anyone.
I like the peasant market and the peripheral market, where the products are mixed, some produced in the peasants' gardens and others also taken from other stores. I like to look for good, fresh and real products. Sometimes I fool myself but I think I learned how to find the best merchandise.
The peasant market has two areas, one is in a large and covered hall, made of wood. It's my second choice. Most of the sellers have all the imported goods.
Here the building is not well protected and it rains inside but, anyway, it is better than outside.
In the third zone (as in the third world) are the poorest. They cannot pay the rents from the other places above. From here I like to buy. I think you agree that it is wiser to buy better goods cheaper, don't you? I know several sellers and they know me, I know they have quality goods. Many times, when I don't have enough money with me and I want to buy more, I receive the goods and can pay after a few days, when I go to the market again.
It rained the most here, both sellers and buyers are little protected from the rain. The most difficult is for sellers who spend more than ten hours a day at the market.
Because I will spend the weekend away from home, in a village, in the house of some friends who asked us to take care of their seven dogs for a few days. I bought tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, bell peppers, eggplant. I bought meat and sausages to cook in the yard, grill and cook in a rustic style.
All that remained was to buy melons. I like it very much, even though I heard it made me fat. Their time is running out and I have to buy as many as I can find. The seller I buy from told me that it will not be on the market after September 15th.
Melons and bread were the last purchases.
I must also say about an aspect that I do not like at all in this market. The fact that it is not a pedestrian area around it. The congestion of cars is extremely unpleasant, polluting and noisy.
For this, there is no solution yet. This month we have elections for mayor and we hope that the one who will be elected will be a better one, maybe he will improve things here.
To forget about these inconveniences I have to think of something beautiful and ... tasty!
In the evening we arrived at the country house, the home of the seven dogs. I hope I have a quiet weekend.
The ending always deserves a flower, #alwaysaflower, Denise knows why.
