What's buzzing, friends!
Though music is all around us, sometimes we take for granted how accessible it is. We can turn on the radio without ever leaving our homes or pull up a music video on our phones with just a few taps. In a world where we can be so connected to so much, it's easy to forget how special it is that we can access music whenever we want.
It's easy to forget how amazing it is that we can access any music we want, whenever we want. Whether we're streaming on Spotify or watching a music video on YouTube, we can listen to any song we want with just a few clicks. It's really incredible when you think about it. That brings us to the early 20th century, before all this modern technology.
In the early 20th century, when you wanted new music, you would not turn on your iPhone, no, you would head to your local department store, perhaps hunt for some sheet music to play at home. The issue is then, you did not know what the music would sound like. This spurred on a new line of work, the song plugger or song demonstrator.
The song plugger would be a skilled piano player and be on point to play any song you brought them, or they would be hired by music companies to help sell their music. The term was later changed to mean someone who sold songs to record companies.
In some ways, the song plugger was a precursor to the teaser track, much like how this introduction is a teaser for the main article below. If you want to read about this profession, you can check out the article [here]. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_plugger)
