Hello Friends, Happy Sunday
Hope you are enjoying your weekend. Everyday is weekend here in Bangladesh, we are under lockdown for about one month. I am trying to utilise my quarantine time with learning few things. Cooking is one of the arts I avoided always. This time I got interested and trying to cook different items. Recent addition to my cooking gallery is Bangladeshi Chom Chom.
Bangladesh is well known for different traditional sweets. Chom-Chom is one of them. Yesterday, I prepared Chom Chom at home. Here is the recipe for you.
Here are the list of materials required to make the sweet.
— Milk
— Sugar
— Water
— Vinegar
— Baking powder
— Ghee
— Granulated wheat
I acknowledge that I am not a professional cook. I took my wife’s help to make it. However, let’s start the process.
Sana is the main ingredient to make sweet. Initially, you have to make Sana from milk. I took 1 litre milk to make Sana.
Here is the Sana making process.
Boil the milk in an appropriate dish. When the milk starts cooling, add mixture of 3 table spoon vinegar and water with it. Mix the solution well. You will see two layers in the dish. One layer is water and another one is Sana.
Take the Sana out from dish and put it in a cleaned cotton fabric which can drain the water. Then put the Sana under running water. This process is to wash out of vinegar smell. Now, Press the Sana gently to drain the water out. Finally, hang it for half an hour to drain all water.
You can set a stop watch or monitor the time manually by your hand watch. Here’s the next step.
After half an hour, open the fabric and you will see nice shape of Sana is ready for the next process.
You are now in the middle stage of sweet preparation.
Now, break the round shape of Sana and mix well with hand pressing. You need to continue the process for about 15 minutes. This is the important part of your sweet making. If the mixing is not well Chom-Chom will not be tasty.
Here comes the ingredients mixing part.
Add half a cup of Suji(Granulated wheat) and one fourth tea spoon of baking powder with the prepared Sana. Again, mix all the ingredients well.
The sweets will get in shape now.
Take Ghee in both of your palms to get flavour and shape of the sweets. Make a reasonable size of the sweets as per your choice.
You need to put these nice shaped Sana into a sugar made liquid solution. Let’s see the solution making process.
Take one litre of water. Add 4 cups of sugar with it. Boil it until the sugar mix well.
Here comes the final step of Chom-Chom making process.
Put the Sana into this solution. Boil this in medium flame. You need to add one cup of hot water every 15 minutes interval. Continue the heating for two hours. When the sweets will be turned into radish colour, the process is completed.
The sweets are ready to serve. I tested it and it was nice to eat. You can try it at home.
Happy cooking. Stay nice and safe.
