After the exhilarating freefall, my instructor pulled the ripcord opening the giant parachute above us. The tiny parachute you see in the first photo is called a pilot chute and it helps the main chute open correctly.
I was expecting a jerk as the parachute opens, but it's not as dramatic as I'd imagined.
You can see the main landing strip of Wonderboom airport on the left.
My sister captured these last few photos of my approach.
Gotta keep your legs up for the last bit!
